A 17-year-old student at Matanzas High School in Palm Coast, Florida was arrested Tuesday after he shoved a teacher’s aide so hard she flew in the air several feet. He then pounded her head into the floor, all because she took his Nintendo Switch away from him during class, according to police. He later spit on the victim and said when he comes back he would kill her, police said.

Security guards are usually retired security workers at plants, who have never been police officers or jail guards.

Perp seems totally oblivious as to the serious nature of what he’s done.
Security guard just casually strolls over, having little interest in actually stopping the violent attack.
Or they were afraid of him. Or of being accused of racism. Of justified their inaction with “Well, we didn’t actually SEE what happened”. And on and on and on...

I knew as a teacher NEVER to take away a kid’s electronic device - you are taking away what they are addicted to and the reaction could be violent, as it was in this case.
This is a huge problem in the schools, massive. Kids refusing to put away iPhones, Nintendo Switches, gaming devices, etc. to which they are absolutely addicted, above all else, very similar to a drug addiction.
And then, despite this, teachers are blamed for low test scores and poor results.
In this case, the school district and union will side with the kid, the parent certainly will. Saw it happen all the time in the schools I worked in.
SO glad I’m retired now...
The deputy took at least 8 seconds to move 20 paces to get to the attacker, who landed at least 15 blows in that time. He should be fired. When seconds count, it doesn’t matter if law enforcement can literally get there in 5 seconds — the victim is still screwed.
I suspect the security officer was terrified of this rampaging, violent, 6’6” 270 lb. black male.
The only thing that would have stopped him is a gun. The teacher is lucky she wasn’t killed.
