I think he was already sunk. The rats play for keeps. He has the most spectacularly unsuccessful tenure as secty of T. I think his primary opponents will be at pains to point that out

Perhaps not. At least 45% of the electorate will enthusiastically run to the polls and vote for anyone running for POTUS as a Democrat. The national media will support any Democrat enthusiastically and control the message. Then there is mass mailing of ballots to the public, extended mail-in voting periods, ballot harvesting by social justice groups allied with the Democrat Party, and unattended ballot collection points which the Democrats which were proven extremely effective in the 2020 election.

Consider both the Biden and Fetterman elections. Consider that in the normal world, we once inhabited, the mayor of South Bend, Indiana would not have been a credible candidate for President for either party. He would have been viewed by the press and the people as inexperienced and too young. Yet in 2020 primaries he was at the top of the pack until the party insiders decided Biden would be the nominee and Mayor Pete gracefully exited. Consider that in a normal world Pete would have been exited from his Secretary of Transportation cabinet job for any one of his miserable failures. Yet he is still on the job and will continue to be.

Don’t forget a “bipartisan” group of Democrat and RINO senators are currently working on legislation to provide a “pathway to citizenship” for millions of illegals in this country. Once amnesty and citizenship are granted, the 45% of the electorate voting “D” will shift to over 50% overnight.

Expect Mayor Pete to be the Dem VP or Presidential nominee in a future election cycle. East Palestine will be long forgotten by that time except for on a few conservative chat boards. If the GOP is running a RINO against Mayor Pete, the GOP candidate will not be bringing up Pete’s mediocre performance as mayor and his atrocious record as Transportation Secretary. For the Romney and Bush crowd beating the drum on the examples of mediocrity would be in appropriate. We saw that with Obama — no attacks on his zero record as a state legislator and US Senator.

We now live in a world where standards and competence are no longer valued or expected. What matters today is group affiliation and feigned compassion. By those measures Mayor Pete is fully qualified and electable.
