Why the hell should ethnic Russians in Crimea, Donetsk and Lugansk agree to be ruled by Ukrainian nationalists that hate them?

Russia has had a naval base in Crimea in 1783. Who in their right mind thinks Russia was going to give that up after we fomented an illegal coup?
