This week is the Ukraine war’s first anniversary, but it feels like 10 years, not one. Ukraine “fatigue” is understandable. But let’s try to put the sensation of war fatigue in context.
Vietnam came to be known in the 1960s as the television war, shown on the TV news every night. News programs then lasted a half-hour, with Vietnam usually just a segment. Still, the unsettling daily footage eroded public support for the war.
Today, with all media on all the time, we are saturated with Ukraine’s war, as we are with mass murders, weather disasters or a train derailment. The sense of feeling worn down by events has become the natural order of things. I had Super Bowl fatigue before the opening kickoff.
In recent months, the argument over Ukraine has been about its importance for the U.S. Is this really “our” war? It is almost eerie that an answer to that legitimate question is emerging almost at the moment of the war’s first anniversary.
It has become clear in the past several weeks that the tectonic plates of global power are shifting. The autocratic alliance of China, Russia and Iran is signaling it’s no longer content to accept an indefinite standoff of competing ideologies and commercial interests as the status quo. They have decided to make Ukraine a singular test, which they believe the U.S., Europe and Asia’s democracies will fail.

Stupidest post of the day!!
central_va: "Stupidest post of the day!!"
Agreed. One observes that the structure of the "not an ounce of evidence" is the same argumentation in form as Obama's claim to "not a smidgen of scandal" in his administration.
In both cases, assertion replaces actual argumentation. Not being able or willing to see the Bidens' activities in pre-war Ukraine as "money laundering" leaves other forms of financial yet quasi-legal crime unrecognized.
Since we have an opaque society and totally corrupt government all one can do is look at behavior. Our Elites act and behave like the have a monetary interest in Ukraine v. Russia hiding behind a fight for “democracy”.
LOL!.
Blathering senile neocon is a blathering senile neocon... who doesn't read any news.
Hold on to that award, the day is young!
More like Nazism fatigue. I for one am sick and tired of watching our shit4brains government support Nazis in a struggle against Christians...
Actually, it's nine years but nobody was paying any attention to the first eight (except ethnic Russians who were getting slaughtered in the Donbas).
Am sure that FBI and CIA are jumping all over the FTX story as we speak, of course, out of Eukraine.
Russia went for slow and methodical. I do personally wish they would speed things up a bit. Am thinking that sadly this is going long term. The west won’t stop, due to the coming default on currency, and they need the Russian resources, they are vast and the western bankers know this. Russia knows this and will go nuclear to stop the western madness. Welcome to WW3. Over debt and incompetence.

Jesse Watters: This is bigger than Bernie Madoff, but unlike Bernie Madoff, who was getting rich off a Ponzi scheme, the Democratic Party was getting rich off of FTX. FTX came onto the scene in 2019, and it spent $10 million to put Joe Biden in the White House in 2020. And the guy running FTX, the second-biggest Democrat donor in the midterms after Soros, of course, spent $40 million to get Democrats elected.
Ukraine was an investor in FTX. You may be asking why is a country in the middle of a war investing in crypto? Shouldn't they be buying weapons, or I mean, if they have to invest in anything, doesn't crypto sound a little risky for Zelenskyy? You wouldn't want an investment with a solid rate of return and years of stable growth? No. Zelenskyy thought he'd give it to a guy living in a tax haven fresh out of college with funny hair. Well, when Democrats are sending you billions of dollars of weaponry, the least you could do is reward their favorite megadonor.
And what did FTX do with the money Ukraine invested? Well, they plowed it right back into the Democratic Party. Democrats send money to Ukraine, Ukraine sends money to FTX, and FTX sends money to the Democrats campaigns. ###
And, never mind, it was in Ukraine that Hunter got his phony job through a corrupt oligarch. Or that George Soros has made millions there since 2014. Or that the defense industry makes millions selling weapons to Ukraine and other Eastern European nations.
Russia has had a naval base in Crimea in 1783. Who in their right mind thinks Russia was going to give that up after we fomented an illegal coup?
Everything we've done in Ukraine since 2014 was designed to start a proxy war with Russia, foolishly thinking we could win.
.
Yes. But at that time, Spain owned Florida. Should we give it back to them?
I agree, and add that some who post on this set of comment threads behave as if they are getting paid by the number of posts.
The pretense that there are but two perspectives on the whole -- Putinista or Bidenista -- is a fool's game, but one which the world's elite have been playing for a long time now.
