It is pining for the fjords!
“”The Soviet union is no more, it is gone, it is all tits up. The 50’s called and it wants its foreign policy back.””
Why do you use the “50s” for the Soviet Union instead of the 90s?
LOL I’m actually cheered by MacGregor’s rants, because he’s been 100% wrong on every prediction since the war started. According to what he said last year, the Russians should be at the Polish border by now.
They seem like very specific statements/predictions.
Never has been much doubt or qualification from McGregor. Nor explanation of events counterfactual to his assertions. Nor, for that matter, that I have seen, any explanation of tactical, operational or strategic conditions that make any sense.
Because the 50s were the height of the Cold War and NATO's vigilance was absolutely necessary.
"Russia’s mounting offensive" is pretty much like last summer's "mounting offensive," which is to say the Russians make grinding, slow advances with horrendous losses. Only this time, in some cases, the Ukrainians push them back and they have yet to make any breakthroughs like the Izyum breakthrough. But even if they did, poor training, poor coordination and poor logistics would mean it would peter out after several kilometers, just like at Izyum.
Like WWI, the Russians are screwed as soon as they outrun their artillery.
In any case, this winter is warmer than usual and in a few days much warmer with rain, so the mud season will start early and both sides will be stuck.
I am still waiting for why Dore is being made the subject, not neocibs/neoliberal policies.
Probably because the ones playing this game are neocobd/neoliberals themselves.
And where is the evidence Dore’s so-called comments about the marines aren’t in an anti-neocon, anti-military interventionism context, not an overarching, all-encompassimg statement about them.
Maybe because by 1991 the USSR was not just merely dead, but really most sincerely dead.
It was in the 1980s as well, and the 1960s, and the 1970s, and we weren’t feeling great about things in 1990 or even 1991 for that matter.
Whatever decade you served in during the Cold War, that was a dangerous decade in regard to Russia.
Saw Gen Miley, nearly in tears the other day, saying Russia will never win in Ukraine.
Notice how Williams deflects away from neocons/neolibs, what they are doing to Americas federal debt, its standing in the world, etc, and attacks Jimmy Dore with a quote mine about Marines that lacks context.
We don’t know if he actually said every word that is said, and that if it isn’t in an anti-neocon, anti-military interventionism context.
Cherry picking.
Try again.
The left does that, for gay marriage or kids changing sexes or whatever, they don’t say welcome to the 2010s or the 1990s, they always say it isn’t the 1950s anymore as though everything is ancient history.
Still cherry-picking, and your quote mining leaves out any qualifications and lots of before and after paragraphs
Nearly every other thread in FR is about
“neocons/neolibs, what they are doing to Americas federal debt, its standing in the world, etc”
That is, if they aren’t about some aspect of cultural decline, which matters more and is the root of your other problems.
And nobody is disputing any of that. Some threads are about matters related to the Ukraine War, not all the other troubles of the US.
Then choose one of these predictions and post the context from the transcript, and show us how it changes his meaning.
MacGregor and many others didn’t anticipate how bad the Deep State wants WWIII out of this. Originally it was Russia versus the Ukrainian army - except NATO built up the Ukrainian army first, and then NATO actually directed the war - everybody above troop level is NATO. So Russia versus Ukraine is a quick war because Putin believed that the Ukraine would negotiate.
But Russia versus the combined assets of NATO is more involved, and few anticipated Biden donating 200 billion in American tax payer funds.
The Deep State can’t quit the war but can’t win it - so it drags on. But MacGregor has been right, as have others, about other aspects of the war.
But why would you choose to write “Why do you use the “50s” for the Soviet Union instead of the 90s?”. Why not the 80s? Unless you forgot basic history when you typed that, as if you imagined the USSR still existed in the 90s?
