The town of Asbury Park, NJ was named in honor of Francis Asbury, first bishop of the Methodist Church in America. The town itself is a dump.
Actually Asbury is now quite hip with great restaurants but also very very gay - not exactly what Asbury had in mind for society but it isn’t the “hood” (apart from the section west of the tracks near Neptune) that it was years ago.
