Escalation is possibly part of China’s plan. They have little to lose by grabbing some aerial photographs, data, etc., while testing response measures.
I think its possible that China have realized that they’re not going to win the economic war or not soon enough for their tastes.
Then again, could be internal shenanigans from the swamp.
