Now, I have my doubts that a truly self-conscious artificial intelligence (i.e strong AI) will ever be created. The output from these programs, of course, heavily depends upon human input - they basically respond with what they are programmed to provide, no truly independent or conscious activity is involved.

I'm reminded of that silly Jim Carrey movie of the 1990s "The Mask."

The Mask simply magnified the wearer's inherent tendencies to an absurd degree, to the point they could force their will upon others (usually through brute strength). The dog wearing the mask was still a dog - he just ran faster, bit harder, etc...

That's what AI will do to humans.

So is it wrong to use contact lenses to correct and enhance sight?

• Kidney dialysis for those with kidney failure?
• Pacemakers for those with heart issues?
• What about computers, microwaves and cell phones. They are all extensions of us and tools we use to enhance our abilities?
• Or medicines? Antibiotics? others?

That's the problem with categorically condemning Transhumanism.

I have to believe that God would approve of all of the above, and probably inspired individuals to bring us many of those enhancements.

Now if you get into genetic modification, even then you will have a divide. Gene therapy to correct a genetic defect, vs gene therapy to engineer a stronger, smarter human.

Same things with chip implants. We have non-intrusive brain wave detectors that can help disabled people communicate. Think Steven Hawkings.

But Neuralink goes a step further, not only promising to help the disabled, but potentially enhancing man.

I don't know where to draw the line, but clearly all advancements are not evil. So which ones are and which ones are not? And how to tell the difference before the evil manifests?

Oh and only having read the first and last paragraphs. Maybe the author hates himself, but I don't hate me or the author. And maybe people struggle more due to technology both with feelings of inferiority and keeping up with the Jones on social media. But it's the same human emotions since the start of time. No matter if your in a dirt poor village, or the King's court, or the techno wonderland of the 21st century.

Are they as much of a tragedy when they die young?

It’s okay, it was a TL:DR type of article. I guess the author was trying to communicate not that technology, or medical technology is bad, but specifically used or deployed in such a manner so as to purposefully alter our intrinsic humanity and to deny that we are created by God, or that there even is a God is what the author was essentially positing.

Medical and scientific progress is great, but as one example, to butcher children in the vain and hubris attempt to change the unchangeable gender is not only absurd, but it directly denies one’s humanity and the God who created us.
