It is possible that Sam Bankman-Fried's defense team, via SBF speaking openly to the press, is establishing diminished capacity in an updated version of the “Twinkie defense” to keep him out of prison.

The diminished capacity defense will have to deal with any and all correspondence that the prosecution will have at their disposal.
If that correspondence from the defendant is lucid that defense is doomed imho.
No way. Too many pissed off powerful people. That defense might work if you shoot your lover in a fit of rage. Methodically stealing money from the rich and powerful—not so much.
