Seems like they’re trying to assert that being depicted as wearing someone’s clothes violates a copyright on the design of those clothes. Pretty far out there.

The MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT was just so plain stupid that there’s no need to try to make it seem worse.

Images, especially ones which were shot for a clothing line, are likely copyrighted. You can’t just “borrow” their images for your own commercial use.

If the company that created and sold the NFTs (for profit) used copyrighted images without obtaining a license, there will be litigation. At this point, it's not clear if they acquired the images legally, or what Trump's level of participation is. All we know is that Trump "licensed his image" to the NFT producer. That might be the limit of his participation and liability. Still cringe worthy. If Trump's people created the images, then it's a legal problem.
