Elon Musk revealed today that he will delete 1.5 billion user accounts from Twitter that have not been viewed in years or sent any tweets.
To free up desired online handles and names is the official justification stated.
However, I could only see that if these accounts were somehow taken over to boost follower numbers or like posts—they couldn’t have been used for other objectives. It’s possible that these accounts could have been utilized as automated user bots.
I don’t think this adjustment will resolve Twitter’s pervasive bot problem, you know—the ones we argue with who appear to back every Biden idea; any retweet, reply, media upload, or tweet shows up as activity on that account.
Many users suggested that Twitter’s infamous bot issue was to blame for this purge, but Musk stressed that these are the accounts with no verified login activity and no tweets.

I’m still banned.
If mine gets deleted, and I never violated the terms of service, I will want to know why.
If it’s allegedly because I haven’t used it...
Well, I couldn’t, could I, after I was banned.
If you haven’t logged on in a year...it should be automatic to delete it.
Like a number of Neocon-supporting accounts here at FR which get activated for specific purposes (such as trashing Trump or supporting the Ukraine War), I suspect Musk knows that these dormant accounts are waiting to be activated to ‘manufacture support’ for whatever new causes the Left wants.
It’s GREAT to see them going away and it will be a LONG TIME before the Left can get anywhere that number of new accounts.
Oh, you know they’ll squawk. Least affected——well, me for one since I never had one and never considered having one and not thinking about having one. My social credit score? ZERO! And that’s how I prefer it. 😎👍
I think this is a mistake. A lot of history being deleted where leftists are on record for when their reckoning comes at some point. Maybe make them inactive, but be sure to save the data.
I guess the days of “buying” Twitter followers to make you seem more popular than you really are, are coming to an end.
Same.
Glad to know it is not only me LOL.
You guys mustta done something really, reeeally bad.
(in my best George Carlin voice)
Actually, you can log on to your permanently suspended account and view things. I do it every day, so I will let you know if my account is deleted or restored. They took down my profile picture of a USA hat with a Q pin on it, so I am pretty sure what triggered my suspension.
1.5 billion user accounts
Dang, that’s 20% of the world’s population.
Maybe he can “accidentally” delete the fat bastard Rob Reiners account. That piece of filth got me banned so many times from Twitter it’s insane, and just for asking him to back up his accusations against Trump

At one account per person.
But no one has multiple accounts, right?
And no one votes more than once.
Except the crooked Dem./DS demographic, perhaps.
Just re-join if the account gets deleted.
I don’t tweet but I do read my acct.
My account was hijacked by what appears to be a stripper. I emailed Twitter about helping restore it but nobody ever replied.
I use it as read only but it’s annoying to see JerseyDvl as someone else.
And, many of these are probably the bot accounts that the previous admin used to fraudulently get suckers to post ads and make investments.
Photobucket is doing the same thing. I haven’t touched my account in years and they sent me a mail a few days ago telling me to log in or they would delete my account.
