What never ceases to amaze me is that the geniuses on the other side unleash this:
חשודים השליכו מטענים וירו ירי מסיבי לעבר הלוחמים, זרקו מטעני חבלה ובקבוקי תבערה ממוקדים שונים
- the suspect threw explosives and fired heavily toward the Israeli soldiers, threw explosive charges and Molotov cocktails from various locations-
and, in this instance and so many others, don’t seem to have hit any Israeli soldiers. At all. Of course there may be a theological explanation, but apart from that it’s always a bit of a surprise to me.
A young man I taught when he was in yeshiva here in the states, and who subsequently made aliyah and served in a good unit, told me that of his 28 months of service, 20 were tironut and 8 were active duty. He said the training was, and I’m quoting this delightful and sweet young man, “learning how to do dangerous things safely.” I guess.
