Gratitude To Ukraine
substack ^ | 12/11/22 | Timothy Snyder

Posted on 12/11/2022 10:34:29 AM PST by Sunsong

"Debts are awkward, especially debts of gratitude. When we owe others too much, we can find it hard to express our appreciation. If we are not reflective, we might minimize our debt, or simply forget it. If we think highly of ourselves, we might ignore a debt to someone we regard as less important. In the worst case, we can resent the people who have helped us, and portray them in a negative light, just to avoid the feeling that we, too, are vulnerable people who sometimes need a helping hand.

"Americans (and many others) owe Ukrainians a huge debt of gratitude for their resistance to Russian aggression. For some mixture of reasons, we have difficulty acknowledging this. To do so, we have to find the words. Seven that might help are: security, freedom, democracy, courage, pluralism, perseverance, and generosity.

"Perhaps the most important and the most unacknowledged debt is security. Ukrainian resistance to Russia has vastly reduced the chances of major armed conflict elsewhere, and thus significantly reduced the chances of a nuclear war.

"Before this war began, one scenario for a major conventional conflict with nuclear risk was a Russian invasion of a NATO country. Ukrainian resistance has revealed the weaknesses of the Russian armed forces, and destroyed much of Russia's fighting capacity. Thanks to Ukraine, this scenario is far less likely than it was a year ago, and will remain unlikely for years to come.

"The major scenario for global conflict in the twenty-first century was thought to be a Chinese-American confrontation over Taiwan. As a result of Ukrainian resistance, Beijing sees the difficulties it would face in an offensive in Taiwan. The flashpoint of what most analysts regarded as the most likely (or even inevitable) scenario for major war has essentially been removed...continued at link

unclear whether the “substantial amounts” were stolen or mishandled or are in Ukraine

Stop making up bs. So there is no proof ANY FTX stolen money is in Ukraine. Or in Morocco, or Spain, or Portugal, etc.

The court has been told FTX has 36 banks and more than 200 bank accounts..... ....how many in Ukraine?.........

Probably NONE, because first of all there is a war going on in Ukraine, and second anybody with half a brain would hide stolen money in the Cayman Islands, Cypress, British Virgin Islands, etc.

And FTX, Ukraine, and the de-MoKKKer-Rat party are absolutely and totally joined at the hips.

Exactly how is Ukraine and FTX 'joined at the hip'?

The ONLY interactions that have been proven are that FTX converted donated crypto currency to fiat money, that was deposited at the national Ukrainian bank. Total of about 3 million dollars.

I think I did mention NEOCons...Many support brandon. Freepers such as yourself.

I have respect for McCaul because he did not vote to certify. I truly wish more GOP had supported Trump. That being said, I don’t agree with his position on Ukraine and I doubt President Trump would either.

This could have remained a regional conflict, yet it is now spinning out of control. Nukes? loss of life? I don’t think we would be providing unlimited arms had biden not pushed and pushed for war. To anyone paying attention, it was obvious we was...Nor do I think there would even be a war if Trump had prevailed as he should have. Was Trump at war with Russia? Don’t think so. He was at war with China if anyone...Yet, we allow China to do what they want, while we spend and spend and spend to fight Russia—and from what you are saying as well as McCaul, we are not defending Ukraine, we are fighting Russia.

Like every other political issue, in hindsight, we are likely to find much lying, deceit, alternative agendas, etc.
This will be no different....It will probably will be worse.
Many in Europe, around the world, and in USA are hurting from the actions taken by this administration. Perhaps you think it is worth it, but I think we are playing into the hands of the globalists.

BTW, I have no ties to any Russians or Ukrainians. I am just seeing and reading of more and more Americans struggling due to the new policies put into place over past year.

Not taking your word or analysis of the ties between FTX and Ukraine, at all.

Until a full and thorough forensic audit is done, you spewing BS like you always do, peddler!

Agree, Putin sensed weakness in Biden, no surprise.

Many support brandon. Freepers such as yourself.

I congratulate you on your mind reading ability.

Thanks Ukes for making sure The Big Guy gets his 10% of your scam profits.

And making sure lots of *our* funds get laundered back to support Dem and RINO candidates so that you can continue your slimy schemes unabated.

Interesting, I have never heard this.

I will tell you that I had a friend who was going to save the world. Truly cared...volunteered and donated to every cause that came along.

Sadly, they lost their family. Divorced, broke, kids are a mess, they turned from their faith.

THe USA provides more in foreign aid than any other country on the planet. We are letting MILLIONS pour across our borders whom we are going to have to support for their lives...

However, in 2020, globalists set in place a plan to destroy USA and other prosperous Western nations... COVID lockdowns and our profligate spending have put our country in a position where we do not have the funds to help support every need.

We have given 47B Euros to Ukraine (as of 5 days ago).

I don’t think we have been stingy—especially when you and I are not paying for it—yet.

Sorry I find your position very disturbing and your comment insulting. Go away.

Pretty obvious from the posts. Though you cut off my post*...I said many NEOCONS support brandon...Your posts indicate you are a NEOCON and clearly you support brandon’s position.

*I don’t appreciate snark or misleading posts BTW, so you and your brandon-position supporting friends enjoy posting the benefits of more funding to fight Russia.

Enjoy the rest of your day...

This just in from several thousand years ago:

I’ll let Solomon’s years speak against your Ukrainian minutes.

“Is it true you are so angry at Putin that you’ve decided to join the Ukranian effort on the battle field?”

No, that would be hazard pay. Spamming conservative sites pays far less, so that’s what they spend most of their (USG) funding on.

“Yes, get Ukraine all the weapons they need asap!”

Some of the weapons we sent them early on have already ended up on the black market.

We’ve been at this for 10 MONTHS, they all know the story, how corrupt Ukraine is, how Ukraine operative in the US Government tried to take down Trump, how we caused the war there by floating NATO, and not to mention Ukrainian ties to the DNC.

At this point, it’s intentional, on their part - they simply support our enemies here at FR.

We might as well accept the fact that they seem embedded here and will continue to spam us until Kiev (and maybe other European capitals, up to the EU) are liberated. Then they’ll have to deal with the REALITY they created (which could have easily been avoided).

Maybe I shouldn’t have included you in that comment. I’m sorry

Of course I won’t go away.

Are you aware of the size of our defense budget?
$1.64 Trillion

That’s Trillion. $40 billion is a rounding error, imo

As to the debt. Neither party does anything about it.

I’m not saying *we* as a country have been stingy. I am saying that those on this thread who begrudge us helping Ukraine exemplify that poem to me. I guess the story of the Good Samaritan goes right over their heads...
