Regardless of what happens in Ukraine, Russia has already WON this war. They won it when they withstood the ‘nuclear’ sanctions by the West and then got, literally, all of the non-Western countries to agree to NOT sanction them.

With that, Russia is now PERMANENTLY aligned with Asia, at least for our lifetimes and probably for the lifetimes of our kids. It wasn’t something that Russia wanted to do, but the cost of joining the Western ‘Family of Nations’ was simply too high (jettisoning their natural resources, particularly energy, and making Grooming a national sport), so they are through with the West and now BRICS is their future.

And BRICS is now the future of the world as the West only has 13% of the population and has to blow up pipelines just to keep that amount. And the BRICS have the resources, the manpower, and the technology (thanks to us giving China everything) - they no longer need the West.

So, to the late George Bush, you never got your “New World Order”, but there will be a “New New World Order”, and it will leave the West behind.

Sucks, and we did have other options, but when people who wanted to fight the above, like Trump, were opposed by BOTH parties, even to the point of rigging an election, this is what you get. And when people in the US, the Neocons, throw everything into a needless war against Russia, you get this result MUCH FASTER than it otherwise would have been.

For some bizarre reason, FR does not permit direct links to ZeroHedge articles, even though it is a major and serious news aggregator. Not even just a title and a link. Not sure why.

So, to post a big breaking ZeroHedge article, freepers must find an ancillary link.

Seems rather silly. Even Infowars is allowed here now, and ZeroHedge is 10X more “mainstream conservative.”

I find it interesting that while Russians are free to watch BBC and CNN, Europeans are banned from watching RT, and it’s hard to find in America, the Land of the Free.

RT used to be on standard cable providers like DirecTV.

Kind of funny, we have more censorship here and in Europe, than Russians do.

Excellent points, Bob. Russia has blunted NATO expansion, crippled both the American and European economies, withstood global sanctions, strengthened BRICS all the while exposing the hollowness of our cold war foreign policy. And it’s only just begun.

BKMK...I’m gonna check that out this afternoon. I’ve gotten in the habit of listening to the Duran guys, New Atlas, and a few others.

The portrayal by MSM on what’s going on is completely dishonest.

This one here is from Colonel Douglas Macgregor (probably banned by Fox), talking about US backed Ukrainian maniacs executing POWs, 500K Russian troops, thousands of armored vehicles, tanks, artillery, rockets, etc. and the can of whoop-ass they’ve got coming.

“Lord if this is russia ‘winning’, what is losing?”

Losing would be 80% of Russia against Putin and his government, rather than 80% supporting them. Even the ‘liberals’ in Russia are pretty much on board with Putin, due to hearing of the Neocon plan to partition Russia.

And do not LIE about what I said. I never said that Russia is “winning”, I said that they already WON this war. All that will be left is a wasteland occupied in some way by Russia and/or NATO, but otherwise a decrepit, meaningless, mass of land.

The Paris Period

Vladimir Emelyanovich Maximov, the founder & first editor of Kontinent, was a Soviet and Russian writer, publicist, essayist and editor, one of the leading figures of the Soviet and post-Soviet dissident movement abroad.

The quarterly magazine Kontinent was founded in Paris in 1974 to publish the works of the authors who were subject to censorship in the USSR and the countries of the Communist bloc. The founder of the magazine was Russian writer Vladimir Maksimov, who remained the editor-in-chief until the whole operation has moved to Moscow in 1992.

Among the permanent members of the editorial board were four Nobel Prize winners and many other prominent writers and public figures from USSR and Eastern Europe but the actual working group from 1974 to 1992 consisted of only five people: Vladimir Maksimov, Victor Nekrasov, Natalya Gorbanevskaya, Vasily Betaki, and Violetta Iverni.

Magazine published literary, historical, and philosophical works as well public statements presenting the ideas for the future of free Russia. With great difficulties the issues of the magazine were smuggled in the Soviet Union, where they were passed among colleagues and friends but those who were caught reading or distributing it could get a prison term.

The Moscow Period

With the collapse of the Soviet Union, the political and ideological goals of the magazine were mainly exhausted and in 1992 Vladimir Maximov has transferred the whole operation to Moscow. Igor Vinogradov became the new editor-in-chief until his death in 2015 when the print edition of the magazine has ended but it existed for a few years in the web format.

The encyclopedia “Who is Who in Russia (M., 1998)” called Kontinent “one of the best periodicals”.

During its 40+ years history Kontinent could be found on the shelves of many world’s major public and university libraries. Besides publications Kontinent’s board had organized a number of major international conferences in Moscow, Paris, Rome, New York, and Geneva as well as Maximovs readings “Past, Present, Future of Russia” in Paris, Moscow, Washington and Warsaw

New Kontinent

The mission of the New Kontinent (NewKontinent.org) is to publish translations into Russian of works by Western authors, whose opinions are more objective and balanced regarding Russia, U.S. – Russia, and East-West relations. The unprecedented anti-Russian campaign in Western political circles and the media gives the Russian citizens the impression that in such conditions no dialogue is possible, but this is not true.

The current state of U.S.-Russia relations in no way reflects their real potential, nor does it serve the vital national interests of the two countries. In a world where the United States and Russia face so many common threats and challenges, they all too often view each other more as a foe than a friend.

The roots of this animosity go back to the time of the Cold War with both countries being cast as inevitable opponents incapable of finding common ground on any issue. Even today, the United States and Russia are separated not only by history and culture, but also by their geopolitical goals and domestic priorities. Contributing to the problem is the shortage of direct communication between civil institutions and business groups interested in better relations between the two countries.

No two nations can ever achieve total harmony in their world views. This, however, should not prevent the United States and Russia from trying to develop a constructive working relationship. Closer U.S.-Russia cooperation is in the best interests of both countries and the history also provides ample evidence that a coordinated U.S-Russian response to world challenges tends to reduce tension and produce positive results.

Communication is a key factor here. In order to better U.S.-Russia relations, the quality of bilateral dialog must be dramatically improved. Political and civil institutions in both countries must have a solid platform to discuss issues, exchange opinions, and resolve outstanding problems.

With this in mind, we have created New Kontinent to promote political, economic, and civil cooperation between the United States and Russia. We are committed to fighting old stereotypes, building trust and identifying areas of common interest. And while we perfectly understand that bringing friendship and genuine cooperation into U.S.-Russia relations is a difficult goal, we believe it is realistic.

Are you the kind who allows the name to influence & dictate opinions about something, instead of investigate what they truly are about?

If so, then you are not using your brain as it was intended to be used.

“Kind of funny, we have more censorship here and in Europe, than Russians do.”

Censorship is required to prevent people from hearing both sides of an issue and deciding what makes the most sense. As of now, the fact that the West is CENSORING Russian news sites (and not vice versa), shows that the West KNOWS they cannot win the argument when both sides are allowed to present their case. The Cold War has flipped 180 degrees.

And, by the way RT, at least as long as I’ve been reading it, has NO PROBLEM with presenting both sides and letting their readers decide. It reminds me how the media once was in the West, long ago now, though.

Moronic as usual. Russia can throw you in jail for 15 years for calling the russian invasion a 'war' and not a 'special operation.'

Russia-Ukraine war: Russia passes law mandating jail time for ‘fake’ news reports

Russians could face prison sentences of up to 15 years for spreading information that goes against the Russian government’s position on the war in Ukraine, a move that comes as authorities block access to foreign media outlets.

The Russian parliament voted unanimously Friday to approve a draft law criminalizing the intentional spreading of what Russia deems to be “fake” reports.

Russian authorities have repeatedly decried reports of Russian military setbacks or civilian deaths in Ukraine as “fake” reports. State media outlets refer to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as a “special military operation” rather than a “war” or “invasion.”

Crimea is the key. If Z can retake crimea, it’s over for Russia. From Crimea, Z will control. The entry to the Sea of Azov. Russias Black Sea fleet will be forced to retreat to Murmansk.

Unless Travis is part of the media in Russia (which you probably think he is, LOL), he CANNOT be thrown in jail for calling it a war.

As to people in Russian media, Russia has NOT declared war on anyone, so saying such is simply FAKE NEWS, meant to stir up opposition...that shouldn’t be tolerated in any country.

I think the battle is about Russian aggressiveness and resources. This isn't the first time Russia has invaded a neighbor and annexed land. Remember Georgia, Chechnya? Not to mention Syria, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan which all invited a Russian invasion to help their Russian puppets maintain power.

Saw a documentary this week that Russia was ramping propaganda towards Japan in Mid 2021. Calling them Nazi's and claiming they were doing inhuman experiments on people. The documentary made the case that Russia was preparing it's people for an attack on Japan.

But then changed directions and decided to go after Ukraine.

Putin's own statements indicate he wants to rebuild the Russian empire and that former Soviet states had no right to exist apart from Russia.

So yeah it's bigger than Ukraine, but it's about Russian desire for power and resources. It's not about US influence.

“The Russian troll quoting reliable Russian sources once again.”

You fault JonPreston for his news source when you constantly quote left wing articles from Rickey tabloids? The anti-communist half of Free Republic is constrained by the fact that we no longer have a free press in America. The MSM in the US is comprised of only six corporations which are controlled with federal government contracts and because of this patriots are forced to rely on small domestic blogs or foreign news. Neocons are sick bastards.
