It’s not the word “democracy” that is the operative term, it’s the use of “OUR Democracy” that is chilling.

Our democracy is what we, the liberal lunatic left tell you loser conservatives it is. Our is reserved to the use of the left and is not inclusive of any others.

The article provides no answer to its own question. A combination of ignorance and malice results in this bastardization of language. What I wonder is why no one seems to call them out on it other than the choir of peons to which I belong.

Democracy is a process; Democracy as a state concept was last tried 2300 years ago ...

Unfortunately, there are a couple here on FR that will swear on their mother’s grave (and fight about it) that there is ‘democracy’ somewhere in there...

Democracy implies that there is a certain unfairness between the haves and have nots and voting allows the underclass to right the wrongs of injustices inherent in the system.

East Germany thought themselves a “democratic republic”.
North Korea calls themselves a “democratic republic”.

They use that word to drill it into minds that democrats are the sole and rightful owners of a “democracy “

Because they WANT democracy. Mob rule. The worst governments in history are “democracies.”

A constitutional republic is a form of democracy. Very few people are advocating for a complete direct democracy.

Arguing about whether the US is a "democracy" vaguely defined or a "constitutional republic" is just like moving deck chairs around on the Titanic.

Under a constitutional republic, states have more powers and rights, not individuals. In some cases, the feds have come to the rescue of individuals against the crimes committed against them by the states.

The real change is that "democracy" use to mean government by white male landowners. This meant that people who tended to be more sensible and had a larger stake in the future of the US were the only ones who voted. Now anyone above a certain age can vote which means more gimmedats voting to take things away from the productive few.

States' rights were dealt a massive blow after the Civil War when they were manacled to slavery. Since then cities and states have tended to overpromise their residents and run deficits that need to be filled in from the feds who are the only ones who can print money.

Even if there were some attempts to revive States' Rights, the feds could just come in and take all their subsidies away.

The real fight is not between "democracy" vaguely defined and a constitutional republic. It is a fight between oligarchy and representative and constitutional democracy, i.e. a democracy that truly represents the people and is limited by a constitution regardless of what the government or the people wish it to say.

The oligarchs are busy importing waves of gimmedats into the US. They claim this is because they care about the individuals who are coming in, but in reality they know that it will create a crisis that they can claim they are the only ones capable of fixing. Anyone who argues otherwise will be labeled a racist xenophobe.

Ultimately it is not the hordes of gimmedats we have to worry about, but the oligarchs who pretend to represent us that need to go.

In a sound Republic we would teach this in our schools. However, our failed public schools foreshadows our failed republic.

We lost the republic with the 17th amendment federalizing the senate. State control and representation through the senate was the linchpin to the founders vision.

These jerk politicians who swore an oath to the Constitution and collect $200,000 salary to sit in their ass, never read the Constitution nor the Declaration. Neither document contains the word, ā€œdemocracy.ā€

There should be a Constitutional test. If you fail, go home.

The ideal of a constitutional republic is individual liberty.

Individual liberty is allowing a communist takeover of the USA.
