Ukrainian Consequences: Energy in Europeby Peter Zeihan
Peter Zeihan ^ | November 22, 2022 | Peter Zeihan

The War in Ukraine has proven disastrous for Europe's dwindling energy supply. Now that Europe has lost its primary source of natural gas - Russia - they're paying up to 10x market price to replace that lost supply.

So what can Europe do? First, hope that they have one of the warmest winters on record. After that, they only have two (equally detrimental) options. 1 - continue sourcing natural gas from spot markets or 2 - remove the demand for natural gas. I didn't say the options were great, but at least they have choices.

I don’t much care what the euros pay. I’m concerned about what I’m going to be paying in January.

"So what can Europe do? First, hope that they have one of the warmest winters on record."

As any military or economic "strategerist" will tell you, repeatedly,

HOPE IS NOT A PLAN.

Gee, too bad "somebody" blew up the Nord Stream pipelines, forcing Europe to buy American LNG at 6X the price.

When they can get an LNG ship to a gasification terminal, of which they have not enough.

It is my habit -- Overton window throw wide open -- to read from many sources, including the pro-Sino-Russia opinions. Here from a Lefty is an explanation which stuns.

From that article, "Larry Fink, Board member of Klaus Schwab’s World Economic Forum, is joined by the EU whose President of the EU Commission, the notoriously corrupt Ursula von der Leyen left the WEF Board in 2019 to become EU Commission head. Her first major act in Brussels was to push through the EU Zero Carbon Fit for 55 agenda. That has imposed major carbon taxes and other constraints on oil, gas and coal in the EU well before the February 2022 Russian actions in Ukraine. The combined impact of the Fink fraudulent ESG agenda in the Biden administration and the EU Zero Carbon madness is creating the worst energy and inflation crisis in history."

Looks to me like the Biden "green" policies are quite in parallel with those "wacky" Europeans.

I thought they were firing back up the nuclear plants and the coal plants.

Plus they have a 3 month storage capacity that is full.

And there will still be deliveries occurring just not from Russia.

They’ll be fine.

See the video. This winter’s natural gas situation for Europe is mostly OK. Due to accumulating Russian gas before the Nord Streams got destroyed/ Next winter will be much rougher. Because their gas supplies are now mostly LNG bought on the spot markets/

What can they do?

Build lots of nuclear power plants.

Build Coal fired power plants and re-open the coal mines.

Repeal anti fracking laws and frack like there’s no tomorrow.

These would work and would solve their problem in a few years but first they have to have the will to actually do it.
