American Muslims for Palestine (AMP)

PARENT ORGANIZATION: AMERICANS FOR JUSTICE IN PALESTINE EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION

American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) is an anti-Israel organization with strong ties to pro-Hamas individuals and organizations. While AMP refers to itself as an educational organization focused primarily on raising awareness for Palestinian causes, it has been described by the Anti-Defamation League as "the leading organization providing anti-Zionist training" in America.

Location:  FALLS CHURCH, VA Formation:  2006 Type:  Radical Islamic Advocacy Group Project of:  Americans for Justice in Palestine Educational Foundation

Multiple individuals associated with AMP have ties to organizations that have been implicated by the federal government for offering support to terrorist entities such as Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad. At a 2014 AMP conference, a lecturer invited attendees to “navigate the fine line between legal activism and material support for terrorism.”  AMP was founded in 2006 by Hatem Al Bazian, a controversial Palestinian-American professor at the University of California at Berkeley with ties to multiple anti-Israel organizations. Bazian gave a speech in 2004 in which he called for an “intifada,” or uprising, in the United States.  https://www.influencewatch.org/non-profit/american-muslims-for-palestine/

On January 12, 2015, Bazian tweeted an article challenging the definition of the word "terrorist." The article stated: "The Europeans who fought Nazism with arms were labeled ‘terrorist’ by Hitler. Hamas is fighting against the occupation of Palestinian lands and is labeled ‘terrorist’."

Berkeley city council’s shameful tolerance of anti-Semitism

BY David Kadosh, Susan B. Tuchman |October 22, 201

... Based on his record, Bazian, a lecturer at UC Berkeley who co-founded Zaytuna College, is no model for peace and justice. He openly supports BDS. This is a movement that promotes divisiveness and hostility, and hatred of Israel. Indeed, as its founders make clear, BDS’ goal is Israel’s destruction. In addition, Bazian has a history of promoting and expressing hostility toward Jews: In 1994, a mural of Malcolm X — surrounded by dollar signs, Stars of David and skulls and crossbones — was painted on the student union building at San Francisco State University. Bazian organized and was a featured speaker at a press conference supporting the anti-Semitic mural. In 2001, when he was a graduate student at UC Berkeley, Bazian co-founded Students for Justice in Palestine. In 2002, 79 members of his SJP group attempted to disrupt a Holocaust Remembrance Day event and were arrested. At a rally to protest the arrests, Bazian addressed the crowd and said, "Take a look at the type of names on the building around campus — Haas, Zellerbach — and decide who controls this university," offensively promoting a common anti-Semitic trope about Jewish power and control. On July 31, 2017, Bazian retweeted an image of an Orthodox Jewish man, smiling and raising his hands, with the words: “Mom look! I is chosen! I can now kill, rape, smuggle organs & steal the land of Palestinians *Yay* #Ashke-N-azi."
