Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene expressed support for Rep. Kevin McCarthy's bid for House speaker . Greene criticized the possibility of fellow conservative Republicans challenging McCarthy . "Well, I actually think that's a bad strategy," she said on Monday.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene on Monday expressed support for Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy's bid for House speaker as rumors swirl about the Republican conference's hard-line conservative wing mounting a challenge against him.
"Well, I actually think that's a bad strategy when we're looking at having a very, razor-thin majority, with potentially 219. We're talking about one vote," Greene said on Steve Bannon's "War Room" podcast about reports of House Freedom Caucus Republicans, such as Rep. Andy Biggs of Arizona, considering challenging McCarthy.
Midterm results are still trickling in, though Republicans appear on track to control the House. McCarthy, widely seen as the frontrunner for the top post, needs 218 votes to earn the speakership come January 3, 2023, when the new Congress begins. But, under a likely narrow majority, McCarthy would need to win over almost every Republican, including members of the influential House Freedom Caucus, to become speaker.
"It's very, very risky right now to produce a leadership challenge, especially for speaker of the House," Greene said, warning that some moderate Republicans could join Democrats and propose outgoing Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming as speaker. Cheney, a staunch critic of former President Donald Trump, lost her reelection, but could technically become House speaker if she receives enough votes, though such a move is uncommon.

Keep in mind that the Speaker of the House is elected by ALL House members -- not just the majority party.
So if the GOP margin is very narrow and a couple of Republicans refuse to vote for McCarthy, then Nancy Pelosi remains as the Speaker even though she's in the minority party.
Called it. She is just a social media now flake, with no substance.
We should call the Gazpacho police.
That happened in CA in the 90s, when Republicans had a majority.
She phoned into War Room a little while ago and justified her position (working with Gantz-FL) that the Dems could peel-off a few turncoats (such as the R-Reps that supported Jan-6) and elect a Democratic speaker of the house.
Now we see why all the talk of Liz Cheney as Speaker. This, yet again, is orchestrated by those who always, always put power over party……McConnell, McCarthy and the rest of the cabal.
Read post #3 and then choke on what you wrote.
“ Called it. She is just a social media now flake, with no substance.”

I trust her read on what’s going on in the caucus now far more than your read. She may well have a good reason for what she said.
Just sayin’.
good point. looks like he stays
Maybe they have something up their sleeves.
I understand, but if all the Democrats and 3 Rinos vote for Liz Cheney, then Liz Cheney is the new speaker. MTG has a point here.
“... just a social media now flake, with no substance.”
Trump too. If supporting McCarthy is the test.
I remember that - and no doubt Kamala remembers, too, because this quote from that time stands out:
"Them white boys know I got 'em." -- Willie Brown
I disagree with the prevailing sentiment that this represents a break with MAGA on MTG’s part. Note that she was speaking of strategy, not principle.
She quite rightly sees that the GOP is set up to fail with a 1-vote lead. Let McCarthy and the other McStupid take the fall. They deserve it.
We have deeper wounds to tend to, and a Pyrrhic victory at this stage is no victory at all.
She’s probably been promised something in return. So don’t rush to judgement, an MTG with power could be a good tradeoff. Although I would much rather have an Andy Biggs and a MTG with power.
She was on War Room tonight encouraging votes for McCarthy. Gaetz came on a little later and said absolutely NOT to vote for McCarthy.
Both made some sense; Gatez made the most sense.
Another name to my growing list of crappy republicans.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene
