Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene expressed support for Rep. Kevin McCarthy's bid for House speaker . Greene criticized the possibility of fellow conservative Republicans challenging McCarthy . "Well, I actually think that's a bad strategy," she said on Monday.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene on Monday expressed support for Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy's bid for House speaker as rumors swirl about the Republican conference's hard-line conservative wing mounting a challenge against him.
"Well, I actually think that's a bad strategy when we're looking at having a very, razor-thin majority, with potentially 219. We're talking about one vote," Greene said on Steve Bannon's "War Room" podcast about reports of House Freedom Caucus Republicans, such as Rep. Andy Biggs of Arizona, considering challenging McCarthy.
Midterm results are still trickling in, though Republicans appear on track to control the House. McCarthy, widely seen as the frontrunner for the top post, needs 218 votes to earn the speakership come January 3, 2023, when the new Congress begins. But, under a likely narrow majority, McCarthy would need to win over almost every Republican, including members of the influential House Freedom Caucus, to become speaker.
"It's very, very risky right now to produce a leadership challenge, especially for speaker of the House," Greene said, warning that some moderate Republicans could join Democrats and propose outgoing Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming as speaker. Cheney, a staunch critic of former President Donald Trump, lost her reelection, but could technically become House speaker if she receives enough votes, though such a move is uncommon.

“She phoned into War Room a little while ago and justified her position (working with Gantz-FL)”
If you mean Matt Gaetz, they are on opposite sides of the McCarthy issue. He is adamant that McCarthy must go! (They see eye to eye on almost everything else.)
Remember what happened to James Traficant when he voted for Hastert?
Once it’s clear who the nominee is, nobody would break ranks.
Well, it didn’t take her long to fall in line with the GOPe.
Precisely! Check her bank account.
I read post #3 before I posted. There’s always an excuse for you to keep leftists in power.
She’s probably right. Plus, her backing him early means a better chairmanship which could produce something. The more import battle is getting rid of 7% Mitch
Unless there is someone else who’s better, I think she’s right. If it’s handled wrong, it’s even possible that Pelosi could be reappointed Speaker if a Republican majority is split.
Nonsense.
It doesn't matter who is speaker, whether it's McCarthy or a Democrat by default. The fact that Republicans will have a slim majority will allow them, like they have done in the past, to share power with the Democrats. It's no different than all the folks who said Pence had no authority to take steps to even question the validity of Biden's electors. How would anyone know that, if it wasn't even tried. Pence could have tried, even if it ended up not being successful, but he didn't even try. Democrats don't give a shit about rules and regulations. If they were in the same position, they would have done what Pence refused to do. So I say screw McCarthy, and let the chips fall where they may, because in the end, it won't matter. Republicans never accept victory, and end up deliberately destroying it.
Do u trust the GOP representatives to vote the right way?? I don’t
I’m not going to doubt MTG on this one. She’s privy to lots we do not know. It isn’t going to make much difference in the long run, anyway. A razor thin majority with plenty of RINO’s among the numbers will ensure the Uniparty remains in power.
“... fall in line with the GOPe.”
Trump too.
McCarthy follows the GOP tradition of BIG Government/Corporatist elites as Speakers. Corrupt Dennis Hastert, John Boehner, Paul Ryan. RINOs ALL.
The last good GOP speaker was Newt Gingrich.
Sure. Like "standing on principle" and ending up with a dem speaker. Or even Cheney.
Opus?
She wants her committee assignments back. Nothing more.
Yeah, an agreement to share power with the Democrats...go along to get along. They do it every time. I can see the Democrats cutting a deal with Republicans to allow McCarthy to be Speaker, in return for no investigations of the Bidens, and no Biden impeachments. Whoever votes for McCarthy, despite his past failures, is a sell-out. Having McCarthy as Speaker is no different than having a Democrat in his place. As Nancy Pelosi would say: "Take it to the bank."
Committee positions is where the money’s at and she ain’t got none. Maybe she’s been promised some. If she starts pimping for DeSantis, we’ll know.
Im glad she is working with Gaetz, perhaps they can come up with someone other than McCarthy for speaker. The problem is the several “Rinos, and anti-maga republicans that would rather vote with democrats than support MAGA.
All that is needed for a speaker to be elected is a majority of representatives (218) voting for that person. They do not have to be from the same party. If no one receives the majority, they will re-vote until someone has the majority. Hypothetical, all ~216 dems with ~2 Rinos could vote Pelosi as speaker. A nightmarish thought!
MTG made a good argument on Bannon this morning. She doesn’t like the idea of McCarthy being speaker and neither do I. The wildcard here is Liz Cheney. There’s a movement to make Cheney speaker. There’s enough RINOs to make that happen. Face it, MAGA doesn’t have the power to remove McCarthy from leadership.
