I actually thought one needed a 0.50 caliber round. If you hit the right spot a 0.30-06 round will do the trick.

Spit on it?

Had the Germans shared some of their tank technology with the Japanese and encouraged them to attack Russia, WWII likely would have ended differently.

Someone from your part of the country could spit moonshine on it and ignite 100+ proof whiskey.

Questionable if the Japanese had the industrial capacity to build a German tank even the Panzer III.

Favorite snippet from the introductory narrative:

“...and is manned by a crew of three men, Japanese size.”

That comment was pretty mild compared to other anti-Japanese propaganda.

For sure. But if it boosted our boys’ spirits, I’m all for it.

I appreciate the subtlety of the jab, though.

Even more interesting are the various ways Japanese troops tried to take out Western (primarily American) tanks...gasoline bombs, pole charges, suicide attacks with satchel charges, even glass grenades filled with liquid cyanide. They had very little artillery, and never developed anything like our bazookas or recoilless rifles.

Similar to how banzai charges scared Western troops early in the war, the prospect of tanks scared Japanese forces to the end of the war, because they had neither comparable tanks of their own, nor effective means of countering even light tanks.

Very true. As it was, the Germans provided the means to build a licensed version of the Me-109, which became the Kawasaki Ki-61 fighter. It was so advanced in both concepts and required production quality (on top of an already overloaded Japanese industrial machine) that it was nothing but trouble for the Japanese until the last months of the war, by which time it made little difference.

I wonder if the Germans ever tried to provide the means for Japanese-made Panzerfausts....

I am sure you know this, that is why there was zero chance the Imperial Japanese were going to invade Soviet Russia. Zhukov using tanks, armored cars, and artillery wiped out a Japanese division in Manchuria. The hope the Japanese had was to go south with the strongest arm of its military, the Navy and its carrier force.

Had we listened to MacArthur’s advice, we wouldn’t have NK to worry about.

I wonder if the Germans ever tried to provide the means for Japanese-made Panzerfausts...

Actually, they did, kind of:

As part of military-technical cooperation with Germany in 1941, documentation was received for the Panzergranate 30 (G.Pzgr.30) anti-tank 30-mm cumulative grenades. Japanese designers adapted the Panzergranate 30 for their production capabilities and created the Type 2 rifle grenade launcher...The Type 2 grenade launcher was mounted on Japanese 6,5 rifles mm Type 38 and 7,7 mm Type 99.

So the Japanese could build the Yamato class battleships, with the biggest guns every mounted on ships, but couldn't build tanks? That is hard to believe. The Japanese excel at refining designs of things they get.

On Parris Island, during close combat instruction, they told us that as Marines, our opponents were likely to be people who didn’t get the same nutrition we have as Americans, and we would have a height and weight advantage over an opponent if we had to grapple them.

Having the technology is one thing. But lacking the industrial base to build tanks in numbers was in itself pretty much decisive.

The Germans did share the tank technology with the Japanese during WW2. From Mark Felton Productions:
