Quite simply the best version of this great hymn.
Outstanding.
CHILLS BUMPS!!! Glory to God!!!
No one could sing this better than George Beverly Shea.

I was in attendance when they sang this. The video really doesn’t capture the quality of the choir and orchestra.
That was so beautiful and moving. Thank you ealgeone
Praise to God for this tremendous song to Him. Wish we still sung the old hymns.
I’m just not a fan of this style. I found it over-orchestrated. The lady singing solo was weak and pitchy. I didn’t care for the odd tempo change in the third verse.
I prefer the Carrie Underwood / Vince Gill version much more. Much more personal, straight-ahead, and she’s much more talented than that whole chorus.
But music is subjective. If you like the FBC version, more power to you.
Shea’s voice reminds me of my Dad’s beautiful voice. This is my favorite song that my Dad would sing. Sometimes I weep when I hear his voice in my head. This is the closest I’ve heard since Dad passed. Thank you. Beautiful.
Praise to God for this tremendous song to Him. Wish we still sung the old hymns.
Me too! I miss the old Broadman Hymnal and Heavenly Highway song books. I go to church and visit and I don’t recognize what they’re singing so I just sing the old standards around the house.....(I whistle a lot too).....;)
O Store Gud (oh, mighty God, aka How Great Thou Art)--Artur Erikson
“How Great Thou Art” is a favorite among Methodists. But there was a fight to get it into the Methodist hymnal. A number of Methodist clergymen opposed the hymn because it was popular among the unwashed riffraff who attended Billy Graham crusades.
Agreed.
Carrie was the best. Even better than Elvis.
