Managers for Democratic Pennsylvania Senate candidate John Fetterman's campaign released a memo to set the expectations for tomorrow's debate with Mehmet Oz, stating that the doctor is entering the bout with a "huge built-in advantage."
Fetterman, on the other hand, will use a computer to deliver instant closed captioninng during the debate. Instead of responding directly to Oz, Fetterman will read Oz's responses on the screen and then respond
This is due to the lingering effects of a stroke that Fetterman suffered in the spring. His wife, Gisele, has claimed that criticizing Fetterman for that use of closed captioning is essentially discriminatory.
She called the comments "ableist" and said that the NBC reporter who interviewed Fetterman, making note of his unique use of closed captioning and inability to listen and responde, should be held accountable for the "disservice that she did to not only my husband, but anyone facing a disability."
The memo was shared by Politico repoter Holly Otterbein.
The statement, written by advisors Rebecca Katz and Brendan McPhillips, makes clear that Oz is a "TV personality," and admits that even prior to Fetterman's stroke that he "wasn't great at debates."
"We'll admit - this isn't John's format. Look no further than the debates from the primary earlier this year. On the other hand, 'Oz is a polished daytime TV host who knows his camera angles and how to craft TV moments,'" the memo says, quoting the Philadelphia Inquirer.
"John is ready to share his vision for Pennsylvania, defend his record, and make the case against Oz. He's going to be talking about his real ideas to help real people. But if we're all being honest, Oz clearly comes into Tuesday night with a huge built-in advantage," the memo says.

He wants to be part of “The World’s Greatest Deliberative Body”? Will he have his device there all the time so he can understand what is going on?
I like the idea of a Senate without Fetterman, but I don’t wish for him or anyone else to go down like this. In his condition, is he capable of doing any kind of work? I don’t mean the Senate. Could he be gas station attendant?
Oz’s advantage is that he’s compos mentis. Maybe that’s what white privilege is.
Tantamount to affirmative action.
“Alexa, please answer the moderator’s question.”
Fetterman’s campaign (and especially his wife) makes it sound like having a stroke is a normal every day occurrence, and that we shouldn’t be concerned with his health going forward.
This is very far from the truth. I’m glad medicine has come so far that he didn’t succumb to the stroke, but he shouldn’t even be running for this office.
I have a good friend who suffered a traumatic brain injury a few years ago. We thought we were going to lose him. It was months before he recovered. He had to learn how to do everything again. He still doesn’t drive. He doesn’t want to put someone else’s life at risk.
Even though he’s not driving a huge piece of machinery, Fetterman is running for a very important job. He owes the people of Pennsylvania a healthy candidate, and he is not. He has a LOT of recovery left to go.
I was thinking he’ll have a special key that he pushes that reveals the pre-programmed answer to the question.
Either that or he’ll to get use 3 lifelines like that game show.
Multiple choice answers:
1. Oz is a racist
2. Oz is a nazi
3. Oz is a racist nazi
4. Oz is a rich racist nazi
5. All of the above.
I feel much better.
LOL
One hardly needs a modern computer to craft an answer that any speaking non-stroke victim Democrat would give.
An old Commodore could do it.
It's Quato whispering the answers in his ear.
Maybe Oz should ask him questions about his health and since he is an actual doctor, then he could diagnose him.
“ She called the comments “ableist””
FR poster HereInTheHeartland bitterly criticized the Green Bay Packers for not allowing him a tryout at linebacker .
HereInTheHeartland said it was “ableist“ that younger candidates were given tryouts ahead of him .
“Why it’s just not fair that these youngsters are given opportunities ahead of me.
It’s pure discrimination to let players born after the year 2,000 go ahead of those of us born while Ike was President .
It’s pure discrimination. Ageism , Ableism, and other word o can make up.
Just like that Fetterman guy who is less literate than Joe Biden .
Those of us unfit for a specific job MUST be allowed to have that job.
If you don’t agree you are ableist, ageist, racist, and anything else we think up”.
This is absurd, that is no debate and now we know Fetterman is mentally unable to compete at all. If he can’t debate then he has no business running.
With all the Soros money behind him, Fetterman is going to be hard to beat.
"But I think everyone would like to know if the computer needs your input to answer questions?"
This also means he will be able to able respond to quick thinking situation.
The thing is his Heart Condition which is constantly looked over. He has Cardiomyopathy , and has had since 2017 and from what I have read has done little for treatment. His health is even more precarious than known.
Wow! You not only hit below the belt you put your whole body into the punch. :)
He maxes out at 5 words. Gonna be a fun night.
