DeSantis team corrects Kamala's misinformation after she claimed people of color are first in line for hurricane relief

Vice President Kamala Harris has come under fire for a speech in which she said that federal Hurricane Ian relief would prioritize "communities of color," in order to promote "equity," prompting backlash.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' team fired back at the vice president's outrageous claims, with his reelection campaign's rapid response director, Christina Pushaw, setting the record straight.

According to Pushaw, who is also the Republican governor's former press secretary, Harris's rhetoric is "false," and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) assistance is available to anyone, regardless of race.

This is false. @VP's rhetoric is causing undue panic and must be clarified. FEMA Individual Assistance is already available to all Floridians impacted by Hurricane Ian, regardless of race or background. If you need assistance visit http://disasterassistance.gov or call 1-800-621-3362.

First in line is what they did to distribute drugs for covid. They had an algorithm that gave points for being obese, having high blood pressure, diabetes and cardiac disease. On top of that they gave points for just being black.

What an utter embarrassment this woman is.

If I could find one fault with the way our Founding Fathers set up this nation, it would be allowing a presidential candidate to choose his running mate (who, when elected as part of the ticket, essentially becomes the second most powerful person in the country with virtually zero vetting).

This allowed Gerald Ford to become president in 1974 even though he was never even on the 1972 national ticket. Spiro Agnew resigned in 1973 and Nixon was technically allowed to choose the next president of the United States, as he himself would resign a few months later. (Yes, I know that Nixon likely had Ford chosen for him but my point remains that the people had no choice in the matter).

We dodged a bullet with Ford because he wasn't all that bad of a president. But we won't be so fortunate should this total looney tune take power, which is a real possibility because the usurper Biden is getting more mentally inept by the day.

That is totally unfair. Due to lack of planning and preparation, women and minorities are always hardest hit

The FF didn’t set it up that way. The number 2 EC voter person was the VP to start, which was the opposition, which caused even more issues. It was a later amendment that changed it to the current way

I think you are right. John Adams, our first VP, was George Washington’s political opponent. I stand corrected.

It used to be that the conventions nominated someone. I’m not sure when the Presidential candidate started choosing a running mate - maybe 1944. FDR wanted to dump Wallace and run with Truman.

A good choice, BTW.

Calvin Coolidge let it go to the convention in 1924 - he said they picked a good candidate for VP in 1920 (himself).

They had an algorithm that gave points for being obese, having high blood pressure, diabetes and cardiac disease.

Using the color of one's skin to determine access to health care is racism.

However, prioritization of limited resources based on one's health condition is nothing new. People with certain pre-existing conditions are more vulnerable to the detrimental effects of Covid as compared to others. Emergency room and field hospital triage apply a similar approach, i.e., doctors work on the most vulnerable first and less vulnerable afterward.
