I work for a federal agency—in my agency, staff are covered by the union whether they pay union dues or not. They are optional.

since the Supreme Court ruled in 2018 that government employees could not be forced to pay a union to keep their job, You'd have to be a foam-at-the-mouth Democrat to ever think that was a good/fair idea.
