Most likely a set up for two years of 2020. The wokes had forty or so ‘riots’ ‘ready to go’ if Trump was declared the winner in Nov 2020, they meant to build up to a real insurrection in DC on Jan 20 to try and stop Trump being declared President by Congress. A real coup was to be attempted with seizing the Capitol and the permanent government refusing to do anything with DC and Capitol Police, DC NG and regular Army.
Or Spain in 1935-36.
That means the permanent government is contemplating a Trump win in 2024 that they will not recognise, instead a ‘caretaker government’ will be installed. That does have the potential for setting up a situation where there are two government’s both claiming legitimacy and the potential for a sort of real civil war with such events a a real battle between military factions for control of huge bases such as Bragg and Hood and LeJuene.

Yes. This is a really brilliant novel oprerating on many levels. It is unsurprising that Hemingway never could approach the level again and that when a global war came he was for most of it less than involved and enjoying life in Cuba. One reason FWTBT doesn’t get the recognition it merits is that Hemingway played the communists for suckers in Spain. Pretending to be their full ally while using his prestige with the party to get access to places and people regular writers never received. The result was not the great ‘proletarian realist’ hack job the party expected but an attempt to show the war in full from the Republican side depicting the way the Stalin system operated.Hemingway also developed a deep personal hatred for communist commissar in chief Andre Marty whose unsparing portrait in FWTBT forever damned this very important French Stalinist. The FBI, after a long investigation, decided Hemingway wasn’t the literary Paul Robeson, they had pegged him for, but just a talented writer with a huge ego and a massively selfish personality and no party’s property.
Funny. I had read many Hemingway novels but had put off FWTBTs, put it in my bucket list. Then summer of 2020 I read both that and Dostoevsky’s ‘The Devils.’(2nd time for that). I felt both cases like I was reading the morning news. That village scene in FWTBTs is probably the best literary portrayal of communism there is.

I would guess what Gates means by “hung election” is basically a replay of 2020 with a different level of resistance to the results. Something along the lines of governors of states refusing to certify, speaking of secession, Trump himself speaking of organized resistance, actual instances of civil disobedience.
And if in fact the Dems do try to rerun the 2020 playbook and steal a second election, the people basically have no choice but to rebel against them, or by giving in, make permanent the one-party state. The best hope is that public opinion is so obviously pro-Trump that nobody would dare steal the election.
I don't think that's the case. I think there are more than enough willing to fight, and equipped for it. It's just that they're also aware that the initial government response will be swift, brutal and merciless. If the start of the revolution is too small in number or lacking in commitment, they'll all get the Ruby Ridge treatment. I think there's more than enough who are willing to die for something, especially is that something is a Free America and the end of demoncrat tyranny. It's just that the most of them would rather not die for nothing. No point being a martyr for a cause that never gets off the ground.
And with all the censorship, distortion and suppression of the news the government is responsible for, it's going to be difficult to know when the numbers are right for a successful uprising. Which, after all, is a key reason why they're so heavily invested in controlling social media and the mainstream press.
