It’s payback for 1995. The player strike canceled the season. Seems the players didn’t care much about the fans - it was all about their money. So - now a fan gets to make it about money too. Hope he holds out for a LOT of CASH, not some autographed baseball, a photo and a few free tickets.
Mine are marked #1, #2, and #3.
That's damned funny, considering those 'in the game' have practically destroyed it.
I would hand it back to him, without expectation of a payoff. But I’m old.
Trade it for 3 autographed baseballs from Pujols. Those will be worth just as much a few years from now.
Just the other day a guy caught Aaron Judge’s 70th home run of the season and when the guy gave it back to Judge in turn for a couple autographed bats, balls and a picture everyone was calling the guy a sap and now they are calling this guy a idiot? Proof you can’t please people!
I’m not a tax expert, but I don’t think so. Its not income . It’s found property and it’s tax basis should be what it was worth when he found it.
I think that potentially historical balls are marked - I believe every ball pitched to Judge has a marking on it.
They have two marks, one visible and one only visible of special light.
Judge was hitless today. Xander Bogarts now has the Batting Average lead keeping Judge from the triple crown. There are 11 games left.
“...Aaron Judge’s 70th home run...”

Are you visiting here from the future?
Hey, in this economy, especially in Cali, this ball may someday be worth a month’s worth of meals.
“The IRS may well consider the collectible value of the ball as taxable income.”
Yes.
And pay taxes on the value.
“I believe every ball pitched to Judge has a marking on it.”
They are starting after 59 and beyond for the rest of this year. There are two separate markings on the balls pitched to him, one visible and the other one not. The balls are not performance doctored, just identification marked. That 700 ball was marked and every one Pujols will have pitched at him for the rest of the year when he retires, will be marked also. The way to see the invisible mark they put on the ball for him requires technology they haven’t made public to know.
The 60th for Judge was checked and found to have both marks so it was authentic.

The fan who caught Barry Bonds’ record* HR had to sell it or he would have been assessed tax on its perceived value. He posted that he could not afford to keep it.
“Will the IRS come after him?”
Phantom income.
They mark them.
FBI raid his house? In this case no, but if he puts it in a safety deposit box...
How to be relevant, by Ted Kennedy. Lol
I would think not until it’s sold...not sure though.
Not overtly, but he may experience a 'burglary'.
