How many precincts out there? Have them do the counting. Telephone the results to an incoming call phone bank. It’s not rocket science. The nation is entitled to know the results on election night. Alaska may be difficult but I don’t think so.
For many years our districts' voting machine totals have been tabulated on the spot and the resulting printouts taken to the municipal building to be added to the other districts. We got new machines last year which keep hard copies for potential challenges or recounts. But they send the results via internet to a county central processing center. The printouts still go to town hall, but if there was a difference in the tallies, who would know?
If we can download giga-bytes of data on iternet in 1 second, there is no reason for any delays to pulish results except to have time to commit fraud so it is not too obvious.
