This is the type of feral violence the anti-desegregationists warned about. I went to a black high school in the deep south for my freshman year. It was terrible. The blacks rarely even went to class and just hung out. They were violent to the point they were made to park their cars in a special lot and were herded every class period to the side of the school. If they were left in the hallways, they pushed and shoved the white and black kids going to class. The black kids who wanted an education, probably 20% or so, were beat on at every chance by the other blacks.
The following year I went to a wealthy white school in Virginia. Completely the opposite experience. Even the black kids were in class and behaved just fine, probably because their parents were successful for them to be in that school.
