And for Oz to be friends with Indonesia, they will have to lose that 5 eyes Brit arrogance, and treat Indonesia like it has ten times the population and 3 times the economic output.
But that might be difficult.
You are ignoring the serious problems they have in their own country.
Indonesia has at least 11 times the population of Australa, but Australia has a higher GDP.
Nominal means expressed exactly in USA dollars.
Because Indonesia has a much lower cost of living and cost of production than the USA and Australia, its total "Purchase Parity" GDP is actually 2.5X times higher than Australia.
To some extent, this is just a currency rate exchange issue.
But, since most Third World (and Chinese) currencies are illiquid and/or manipulated by their governments, the Purchase Parity GDP and PP-GDP per capita are much more meaningful numbers than Nominal GDP and Nom-GDP per capita.
Friends maybe, but like Turkey, Indonesia is Islamic and will never be part of the West.
