Does Hunting Season Mean Ammo Prices Are Going Up Again?

With Hunting Season Just Around the Corner, Ammo Prices Are Set to Increase: Labor Day is now in the rearview mirror and that means the unofficial end to summer. Kids are heading back to school, the weather is going to cool down quickly in parts of the country, and it won’t be long until the leaves begin to change colors. With the arrival of fall comes football season and also the fall hunting season.

With the pandemic largely under control, this year promises to be among the biggest hunting seasons ever – but that also could mean that ammunition prices could spike in the coming weeks after months of a steady decline. The simple fact is that the sale of firearms has remained steady, which will, in turn drive up ammunition demand.

Bow season comes in first. My brother is highly proficient. Arrow are quite expensive but can be reused.

5.56 NATO and 7.62 NATO pricing does not reflect hunting season scheduling.

The Law of Supply and Demand. Odumbo’s edicts put a real crush on raw material and components even 9mm and 22LR were hard to find. DJT really drove down prices by NOT threatening supply. Right now hunting ammo is available but maybe not in a favored caliber or load. Hope you can get what you need.

Probably not.

Your average once-a-year hunter uses less than a box a year:
3-5 rounds to confirm zero
6-10 for kills

So if you're worried about just hunters skewing prices, I'd say not much.

Right now I am aiming my ballots against ‘D’onkey Party and RINOs. If the same shenanigans come as last election, who knows where the ammo cost will be!

The larger caliber hunting rifle cartridges are $30 or $40 per box of premium rounds but they are typically sold in boxes of 20 cartridges which should be enough for the vast majority of serious hunters for fall hunting.

My carbon arrows and carbon broadheads (which I can re-sharpen) run about $20 apiece.

1. Prices have been declining and in good supply. 9mm, 5.56, 308, 270. 6.5 Creedmoor, 22, etc.

2. HOWEVER, not all calibers are being produced. Odd or obsolete calibers just not there, i.e. 257 Roberts, 35 Rem. Manufacturers seem to be skipping their once a year run of some of these.

3. Norma has gone hard at the US market with great hunting ammo at super prices. When was the last time you saw $15.00-$17.00 boxes of traditional cup and core in 308, 270, etc. Check Norma out, some great new stuff undercutting the US big four.

4. Use ammoseek and ammobuy to search and get alerts. I've gotten great deals through out the year.

Hunting season used to mean great sales on Remington Cor-Lokt ammo in hunting calibers.

If I were a hunter, I’d have already planned on this annual condition and accumulated a few cases of ammo.

That’s what my brother uses. Did really well during bow season. Got skunked during shotgun season last year.

22LR is 6 cents per round all over the place. No shortage there. 9MM for a quarter. These prices are great! Get it now.

My son found the bolt and razor tip I shot my buck with last year.

I’m hoping to use the same lucky crossbow bolt this year.

Good luck. Venison is good eating, and with the price of groceries not a bad idea to fill up the freezer.

Last two deer seasons, my son and I got four deer, used five rounds.

I use 3-5 rounds per rifle in the late summer just checking out the rifle/scope combination, making sure nothing happened since last season.

We are good shooters, the 30-06 he uses and the 30-30 I now use are still shooting ammo that I bought 5-6 years ago and have at least 500 rounds in my safe.

I am not buying ammo and at age 81 just use 38 and 357 pistol ammo on a monthly basis for hand gun practice.

I bought over a 1,000 rounds from Dicks several years ago when the CEO went nutz and banned "assault weapons" and then offered 50% discounts on much ammo.

I had hundreds of dollars of Dick's gift cards and used it all up on 50% ammo.

I haven't bought a thing from Dicks ever since, but I thank them for cheap ammo.

Before the local WalMart went Super Walmart, they’d close out some loads of ammo for $6-7 a box. It was fairly well hidden, so I’d keep an eye on it. I got some serious deals.

I do not know because I haven’t been hunting in years.

Yesterday, I took my dog for his morning constitutional and saw four full sized bucks, the smallest with a six point rack just hanging out. If the dog didn’t go bonkers, I would have gotten some great photos which were wall hanging worthy.

I live on a golf course and the deer there are protected from hunters. I have been tracking the herd for the last two years and have watched many of them grow up. It’s amazing to see.
