It’s part of a big plan that started with Iraq in 2003 to be followed by other nations like Syria.

They tried during the “Arab Spring” that successfully took out Qadaffi in Libya in 2011.
But Assad of Syria a tougher nut to crack backed by Iran and Russia (the coup in Ukraine against the Pro-Russian gov’t there followed in 2014).
When the “Civil War” the US led on Assad in Syria morphed into ISIS that had to be contained.
Our troops arrived in the region and hung on to hold the oil rich sector of Syria and pick up the pieces of the failed attempt to take out Assad.
