That’s awesome! I’ve won $160 at most on scratchers, but I play the $20 and $30 tickets. I usually win back 75% of the money I spend on 1/2 a dozen tickets at a time, and one of these days I’m gonna win big!!!

The guy bought it from that store and I’m guessing he scratched it off immediately so questioning its validity is stupid.

In my home state lotto sales are conducted by low tier and high tier merchants. I worked retail in a liquor store and we COULDN’T pay out over a hundred dollars on a single ticket, I had to direct winners to a high tier outlet.

Very significant winners had to go to a lotto office. It all has to do with auditing and cheating prevention.

I suppose its possible. Chain grocery near me has days when they will not give cash back as change after the purchase, claiming they do not have any. This started back during the scamdemic and happens every month or so.
I can’t get any answer as to why.

In Texas, the scratch off prizes over $599 have to be taken to a claims center or mailed to Austin.

Meh, you have a point.

But, if I was a store manager in LA, I would not have $200 in the till after 8 pm

In Texas, they have to pay up to $599 before you have to go to a claims office or Austin.

You could’ve kept trading your winner in for more scratch offs until it was finally all gone....

This has happened to me a couple of times. One time I tried to redeem a similar amount at a gas station. Not enough cash there so I went to a grocery store in the neighborhood to get my winnings. I hit it big again. Based on my previous experience I went to Safeway first. However, they didn’t have the cash. Probably because it was very early in the morning. Nobody is stationed there on a permanent basis. No big deal. Nothing to complain about. I just walked to CVS at the other end of the shopping center and got the money. The redemption station at CVS is frequently used and there is always someone there.

Yeah, I didn’t know about this.

>All retailers are authorized, but not required, to pay prizes of $599 or less. Retailers are not required to keep cash on hand to pay all tickets. They have the option of paying by check or money order. If they choose to pay by money order, they may not charge the player any fee for the money order.<

Why cry about it.

Exactly. Walking two doors down to cash in $200 winner, oh the agony.

In my state anything over $200 has to be mailed in to the capitol so they can see if you have garnishments or back taxes. I was at a pizza joint and a guy won $1000 and flipped out when the owner told him he can’t cash the ticket.

California has that rule but the cutoff is $600. A grocery store not having $200 when they have a $100 cashback limit on groceries doesn’t pass the smell test

Los Alamitos is a nice city...I am surprised that you got a bad customer service in that city...
