No Link.
Back in April a 1,000 pound load of metal at the scrap yard paid 8.5 cents per pound which was $85 for the half ton load I took there.
Today I had a dump load with some metal and decided to stop by the scrap yard and get $8 or $9 instead of just dumping it. It was right at 100 lbs. and payed out $4.50.
That is 47% less than what it was a little over 3 months ago.
Is that big a price drop normal in the scrap market; maybe it is a seasonal thing? Or a sign of Brandon's declining economy?
Price fixing... With this economy it should be up like it was during the record Obama years...
I am seriously considering booby trapping my Catalytic Converter with stainless steel wire and treble fishing hooks.
Silver down also. Crazy. It tells me nothing will be of value here soon. Might be a good time to die.
I would have imagined copper would be way up as I thought we sent lots of it to China (so they could sell it back to us as sh!tty equipment). But that makes sense too with Biden’s manufacturing cuts.
Well palladium anyway.
Platinum is currently worth much less
I was told by a guy at a scrap yard on the Ohio River that the scrap they were loading on barges would eventually end up China. If the demand for your scrap is down, China must be slowing down.
For the past ten years the scrap metal I produce goes in the trash. It is so cheap as to not be worth the diesel to drive to the scrap yard and the scrappers won’t waste their time picking up anything from the small machine and fab shops in town.
I scrap on the side, using a 5x8 foot trailer. I Regularly have over 1500 lbs and more than a handful of >2000lb loads. Load by hand, off load by hand. Disassemble things to get aluminum parts and copper. Gives a little bit of pocket money.
Great!..Some Free Enterprise opportunities are still available, if one is ready to do the heavy lifting.
That’s called being resourceful.
