The Pearl Police Department issued the following statement.
Pearl Police have arrested Brandon Andrews, 20 of Flowood, after a pursuit Thursday morning. Pearl Officers attempted to make a traffic stop on a Toyota Camry for speeding westbound on Interstate 20 just before 11 a.m. Andrews failed to pull over and officers pursued. Andrews continued westbound on I-20 and onto I-55 south into the Jackson city limits.
Andrews crashed into a U.S. Postal Service vehicle on Maria Drive just off McDowell Road. The Postal Service employee was injured and transported to UMMC and died due to his injuries.
The suspect fled the crash scene but was quickly taken into custody and transported to the Pearl Police Department and later to the Rankin County Detention Center and is facing numerous charges. The identification of the Postal Service Employee will be released by the Mississippi Highway Patrol pending the notification of the next of kin.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol, along with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Postal Service are investigating this crash at the request of the Pearl Police Department.
Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba issued the following statement. "First off, I want to send my condolences to the family, friends and co-workers of the U.S. Postal Service carrier who lost her life today in Jackson. The postal truck was struck by the driver of a vehicle who was involved in a police chase with Pearl police. As a result, the carrier died from injuries sustained in the crash. . According to a media release from the City of Pearl, the pursuit began after the suspect failed to pull over for a traffic stop.
I want to reiterate that police pursuits that enter our City from multiple jurisdictions do not make us safer. There are often tragic outcomes like this one for minor traffic stops, and we have experienced it before. What often isn’t considered is the effect these pursuits have on innocent bystanders and it is something we believe needs to be changed.
We aren’t anti-pursuit. We are anti-pursuit for minor violations which often spillover into tragic consequences for our community. With the advent of new technology, such as a growing camera surveillance network and tag readers, we can apprehend suspects without endangering the public.
If our effort is public safety, it has to be public safety in every regard.
We renew our request to the state Legislature to restrict the offenses for which multi-jurisdictional pursuits can occur in the City of Jackson."
One of young scholars killed a postman.
Needs some national attention.

Jackson postal worker killed after suspect in Pearl police chase strikes his vehicle
Dollars to doughnuts the runner wasn’t running because of a speeding ticket.
I am sure he was wanted for something else.
Windham then asked why Andrews and other suspects chose Jackson to flee to.
“An important question we need to ask is why criminals feel Jackson is a safe haven or a sanctuary city. It appears their mentality is ‘If they can only get to the city limits and hide in the neighborhoods they can get away,’” Windham wrote.
Windham highlighted some of the reasons why Andrews may have decided to flee the police:
Andrews is currently out on felony bond from Flowood Police Department for possession with intent to sell narcotics while in possession of a firearm and possession of a stolen firearm.
Andrews is a suspect in a capital murder case (kidnapping and murder) in Jackson being handled by the Hinds County DA
Was charged in 2021 for armed robbery and shooting into a vehicle in Hinds County.
Was arrested in Pearl for DUI and speeding in 2021.
In Thursday’s pursuit, Pearl officers found a 30-round extended magazine in his car that he tried to hide behind an abandoned house after hitting the mail truck.
Windham ended his statement by responding to Lumumba’s concerns.
“Not once did Mayor Lumumba condemn Brandon Andrews for running from the police for breaking the law or causing the death of the postal employee. That is unacceptable. His only blame was on the Pearl Police,” Windham wrote. “Ninety-nine percent of people pull over for ‘minor traffic stops’ the ones that run have sinister reasons for not stopping.”
PLEASE get this to Tucker, Hannity, etc. if any folks have contacts.
Needs to go national.
Just saw the booking photo
Can’t post it from this device
I agree about not chasing for minor minor traffic offenses. There has to be a stopping point for these chases. Is it worth this postal worker dying for someone else’s misdemeanor? Really? There has to be some kind of compromise. ?????
In Washington state, police can no longer pursue...

The DA has no connection to Soros. He was appointed by Republican governor Phil Bryant.

Do the name Ruby Begonia mean anyting’ to ya’?
Sounds like Jackson is a sanctuary city for criminals. And they have petitioned the Legislature before to protect their criminals. But, I forgot, #ComDem's are Above the Law.
In this case, a life was lost. Very tragic. Now they should try to punish the driver who caused the death.
Just another sorry as thug. Needs to be hanged.
“ In 2020, the city’s homicide rate reached its highest in history with 79.69 homicides per 100,000 residents, with a total of 128 homicides.[91] Of major U.S. cities, only St. Louis surpassed Jackson’s homicide rate.”
So the trash they interviewed is blaming the police? The mayor says police chases lead to situations where innocent bystanders get killed?

Unreal. The idiot black man says police should just get a tag. What if the vehicle was stolen? What if a child was being kidnapped in the car?
“Pearl officers found a 30-round extended magazine”.
Did he pull it like taffy to stretch it?
The magazine mentioned is just piling on for extra drama.
Thug has real crimes to answer for, the mag is puffery.
I would think that unlawfully killing a uniformed federal employee in the course of his official duties (in this case driving a marked government vehicle) should be a federal crime, in addition to a state crime. Anyone out there know if it is?.
Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba.
Wow ,,,
.
Interesting excerpt, but it might have helped understanding if we didn’t have to click the link to find out who Windham is.
If they don’t charge felony murder the Prosecutor needs to be recalled.
