Postman Killed in Chase (Jackson MS - Soros DA)

The Pearl Police Department issued the following statement.

Pearl Police have arrested Brandon Andrews, 20 of Flowood, after a pursuit Thursday morning. Pearl Officers attempted to make a traffic stop on a Toyota Camry for speeding westbound on Interstate 20 just before 11 a.m. Andrews failed to pull over and officers pursued. Andrews continued westbound on I-20 and onto I-55 south into the Jackson city limits.

Andrews crashed into a U.S. Postal Service vehicle on Maria Drive just off McDowell Road. The Postal Service employee was injured and transported to UMMC and died due to his injuries.

The suspect fled the crash scene but was quickly taken into custody and transported to the Pearl Police Department and later to the Rankin County Detention Center and is facing numerous charges. The identification of the Postal Service Employee will be released by the Mississippi Highway Patrol pending the notification of the next of kin.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol, along with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Postal Service are investigating this crash at the request of the Pearl Police Department.

Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba issued the following statement. "First off, I want to send my condolences to the family, friends and co-workers of the U.S. Postal Service carrier who lost her life today in Jackson. The postal truck was struck by the driver of a vehicle who was involved in a police chase with Pearl police. As a result, the carrier died from injuries sustained in the crash. . According to a media release from the City of Pearl, the pursuit began after the suspect failed to pull over for a traffic stop.

I want to reiterate that police pursuits that enter our City from multiple jurisdictions do not make us safer. There are often tragic outcomes like this one for minor traffic stops, and we have experienced it before. What often isn’t considered is the effect these pursuits have on innocent bystanders and it is something we believe needs to be changed.

We aren’t anti-pursuit. We are anti-pursuit for minor violations which often spillover into tragic consequences for our community. With the advent of new technology, such as a growing camera surveillance network and tag readers, we can apprehend suspects without endangering the public.

If our effort is public safety, it has to be public safety in every regard.

We renew our request to the state Legislature to restrict the offenses for which multi-jurisdictional pursuits can occur in the City of Jackson."

FWIW the Bureau of Labor doesn’t classify USPS employees as federal employees. That may be the “loophole” on the crime.

I don’t know about you, but I would think it would be best to tell people to stop when the LEO turns the blue lights and sirens on. Instead, the city of Jackson leaders are telling people to drive like he!! to our city, and we will make sure you go free. It’s THOSE people who put in place policies that led to the post office employee’s death.

Just looked it up. Hiz honor is a Black african supremacist and big time radical. Malcolm X, NOI, etc. His father was born in motown, not mombasa.

Of the “we wuz kangz” variety. Daddy changed his name in the 60’s and became a black separatist. As close as daddy ever got was being mayor of Jackson, MS which is 75% black. Apparently it’s a hereditary office.

On July 3, 2017, Chokwe Antar Lumumba became the 53rd mayor of the City of Jackson, Mississippi. He was 34 years old, making him the youngest mayor in Jackson’s history. He is an attorney, a husband, a father, and the son of two life-long community activists—the late Mayor Chokwe Lumumba and Nubia Lumumba.

‘We’re not going to change our pursuit policy,’ Pearl mayor says

Brandon Andrews, 20, of Flowood, was arrested after the crash that killed Brad Pennington, 32, a mail carrier since 2015.

According to the city of Pearl, Andrews is out on bond for a felony charge in Flowood for allegedly selling narcotics while in possession of a firearm and a stolen firearm. He is suspected of kidnapping and murder in Jackson and was charged in 2021 in Hinds County in connection with an armed robbery and shooting into a vehicle.

Dude is screwed. Not only murder, but murder of a federal employee and felony damage to a postal vehicle.

In many states, eluding law enforcement with a vehicle is a felony, so that alone is not a minor offense. Also, the article does not say why the perp was being pulled over for in the first place. Mind you, the police often has info about an individual before they attempt a traffic stop, such as a drug deal, smuggling dope or what have you. In their initial reports they often say they were being pulled over for speeding, unlawful lane change or defective equipment when they know the perp just left a known drug house. Then after the stop they tell the public that drug dogs alerted to the vehicle that prompted a search of the vehicle , its called probable cause but they need a reason to pull you over off the hiway.

I live not far from Jackson. This guy's father was from Detroit named Edwin Taliaferro and joined a Black Panther's type of group called the republic of new afrika in the 60's. He changed his name to Chokwe Lumumba after that to make it sound african. Junior is keeping up the tradition. Jackson is an interesting city, it makes Mogadishu look like Disneyland, you pretty much don't go there anymore. Senior became the mayor years ago and promptly died in office, junior got elected to take his place. He's a clown of the first order, a real piece of...work.
