Well, your beef is what the several FReepers on this thread who say my infirm mother is just out of luck as far as voting.
I assume that she can request a mail-in ballot be sent to her. No need whatsoever to mail ballots to every voter on the voting rolls. This is where the fraud becomes easy.
Of course. You and I are on the same page. I'm just responding to the no-exception posters here who say show up at the polls or don't vote at all.
“Well, if mail in ballots are eliminated, my elderly mother won’t be able to vote.”
She could request an Absentee Ballot and mail it it. It requires a couple types of verification, actually making the request being the first step.
Also, on Election Day, at least in the elections I’ve worked, there are a large number of volunteers whose only job it is to go to shut-ins, have them vote, place a signature, and personally return the ONE SINGLE ballot (not a stack) to Election Central. (Hopefully most of them are not helping the fraud.)
There are volunteers who will drive people to the polls.
Mail-in ballots are the problem, not the answer. We did very well in the past couple hundred years with one election day and paper ballots.
Democrats will find other ways to cheat but it will make it harder for them
GREAT news!
Agreed!!
But the Wisconsin Supreme Court won’t do ANYTHING about 2020!!!!
Am reading the opinion now, very encouraging news.
“she is a vote-by-mail candidate if anyone is.”
It’s easy to confuse Absentee Voting with “vote by mail”. Both are by mail. One is legitimate and highly monitored. Broad vote by mail is election fraud’s best friend.
Just request an Absentee Ballot for her. It’s fair and easy, and her vote will be legitimate, not something someone possibly has stolen from her. You can have peace that her vote will be her vote.
Very important distinction. Thank you.
Well, if mail in ballots are eliminated, my elderly mother won’t be able to vote.
That is too bad but in person voting is the only way to control the fraud. Sorry but it is small price to pay.
__________
I am pretty crippled up with arthritis AND COPD (Despite never having been a smoker). Getting out is a real challenge. But I agree with you. In most places handicapped do not have to wait in line. Use a wheelchair. Go in person.
“Mail in ballots need to be eliminated.”
Nope. There are legitimate cases where this is the only option that does not disenfranchise some voters.
Rather than eliminate them in a ham-fisted stroke of bad government, institute stringent controls on them.
No matter what else you do, purge the voter rolls after EVERY election to force the voter information to always be less than 18-24 months old.
REQUIRE that mail-in absentee ballots be mailed out to voters ONLY at the voter’s request. Institute a verification step: perhaps a signature card mailed out to the requestor that has to be signed and returned to affirm that the ballot was legitimately requested. Compare signatures on cards received from the same address to ensure against a single person “pencil whipping” fake signatures for multiple persons.
EXPONENTIATE the legal penalties for fraud; no fine should be less than five figures FOR EACH OFFENSE, and prison terms should BEGIN at five years with concurrent service for multiple offenses EXPRESSLY DENIED.
If we were REALLY serious, there’s a whole undiscovered country full of steps we could take to harden elections against fraud. Frankly, I wouldn’t be against hanging a few perps publicly to get the f’n point across.
YMMV.
“But 2020 was a bit turbulent during to the lock down, etc.”
Lockdown kicked in back in March.
Last day to request a by-mail absentee ballot was still a few months away; ANY county could’ve handled it per normal procedures. Spamming every address with unrequested ballots was lazy, at best, but more likely an entirely known aid to imminent fraud. There was no good excuse, only a convenient one enabling just enough CYA to get the dirty deed done.
Drop box’s should be elminated in every state!
That’s a start, but we have a lot more states to go.
I bought a book from Ebay last year that had to go through a USPS hub in Philadelphia. The guy who sold it to me said it may take a while as Phili is REALLY screw up, and sure enough the tracking number traced it from postal stops from California, then some other states, then once it hit Phili, that was it. It didn’t move for a MONTH! And THAT is where they move ballots?
