Dan Lipinksi is thinking of running for IL-6 as an Indie. Do you think that would help or hurt our chances?

BTW, I could have sworn that Bill Lipinski was his UNCLE not his father which apparently he is. Mandela effect?

Depends on how much appeal Lipinski has there. If he raises enough money to appeal to Dems, it might help the GOP. Frankly, after being jettisoned over abortion, he might be better off switching parties and moving rightward.

I remember very well when Bill Lipinski announced after the filing deadline that he would retire, and then (in his capacity as alderman or ward leader something like that of a ward within his CD) insisted that his son Dan, who was a political-science professor at the University of Tennessee, be the substitute Democrat nominee. When some of the other ward leaders stated that there were some other candidates in the district who had been waiting their turn to run, Bill replied “you don’t understand; if you don’t select Dan as the replacement nominee, I’ll withdraw my retirement.” Bill Lipinski made damn sure that his son inherited his seat.

I did see on Twitter that people were saying that Bill was Dan’s uncle, not father, so obviously you’re not the only one who has that mistaken memory. The Mandela Effect indeed. (For the record, I never thought that Mandela had died in prison and have no idea why people swear that they remember hearing that, but I certainly do remember a movie poster or something for a movie in which Sinbad played a genie, and I was shocked to learn that there never was any such movie. The only explanation is that someone has been fooling with the Matrix.)

As for whom a Dan Lipinski indie run would hurt the most, I would think that it would be the GOP nominee, Mayor Keith Pekau. Pro-abortion but otherwise moderate Democrats would have no qualms about voting for Sean Casten instead of Dan Lipinski, and those pro-life Democrats that Lipinski would nab are exactly the voters that Pekau would need to defeat Casten, and Lipinski also would take some independent votes from Pekau. Had moonbat Marie Newman won the RAT nomination, there would have been a reasonable chance that Lipinski would take a lot of moderate Democrat votes away from her (and some from Pekau), making it a competitive three-way race, but I don’t see a path to victory for Pekau against Casten if Lipinski is there as an escape valve for pro-life Democrats. A one-on-one race between Pekau and Casten, however, would be potentially winnable for Pekau due to the toxic electoral environment for Democrats and the likely support for Pekau from Lipinski Democrats.
