“WHO WROTE THIS?”
It was probably one of my Business Ethics students. Government schools teach them to write in fragments and fused sentences from an early age! :0
I just sprinkle 20 Mule Team borax powder around my foundation, and around any active ant nests, or along their paths; annually. No more ants, and cheap to boot.
thanks
>>>> low-toxicity ... with insecticidal, fungicidal, and herbicidal properties
>> IOW, not low-toxicity. But since that’s a relative term and I’m already checked out, OK, whatever...
OK, I’ll pull back a little here. Turns out that its insecticidal properties are, believe it or not, mechanical, not chiefly pharmacological. At the microscopic level, boric acid condensate has extremely jagged edges which get inside the exoskeleton and tear insects apart when they walk through it. Better yet, because it doesn’t kill roaches FAST, they travel to where their corpses are cannibalized... and the boric acid rips the cannibals apart from the inside out. Mwahaha.
Actually, the chief error is in describing boric acid anhydride as boric acid, which really isn’t that bad of an error. I even found out (and posted already) that it IS an insecticide with, paradoxical as it may be, a low toxicity: it kills by mechanical, not pharmacological action.
I may have found a better deal.
This is for borax, which is not boric acid, so look into the differences first.
But if you want to buy in quantity, this is 260 ounces for $22. That’s $1.35 a pound. search for borax on amazon.
Well, THAT error could probably have been written by one of my students, too...
I use it to protect untreated lumber from carpenter bees and ants. Plus, sprinkle it around the crawl space, foundation and walkways to keep them insects away.
I also use it in swimming pool as a stabilizer. Borax.
It is lethal to most insects as it disrupts their use of water, but vertebrates are not affected, in trace amounts.
How exactly do you use it on untreated lumber? What mix and how applied?
BA. It's good stuff to have on hand.
Thanks.

Diatomaceous earth is a powder containing about 80%-90% silica. Diatomaceous earth is thought to kill insects by dehydrating them or drying them out.
What bugs does diatomaceous earth keep away?
Diatomaceous Earth is effective against any insect that has an exoskeleton. This includes fleas, mites, lice, ants, millipedes, earwigs, cockroaches, silverfish, bed bugs, crickets, centipedes, pill bugs, sow bugs, most beetles, fungus gnat larvae, and some grubs.
4 lb. Diatomaceous Earth - Bed Bug, Flea, Ant, Crawling Insect Killer $9.47
Sort of like Diatomaceous earth, as an insecticide for crawly insects with an exoskeleton, as well as the slimy slugs in the garden.
.
Where do you diatomaceous earth for that price?
Several years ago I checked online. It was like $18 plus shipping for 1-lb powder.
I went over to Family Dollar and got the same size and container for $2.00. Dollar General usually has it also. Prices are probably somewhat higher now.
Boron is an element, not a mineral.
put 1/2 teaspoon in a glass of water and drink it.
It opens my sinuses almost instantly and feels like good circulation.
Read up on it first, but I am NOT making this up.
Container I have had skull & cross bones on the label.
One of my uses is for chiggers that dig into my skin. Kills the little buggers.
Just enough to dissolve it.
