Ukraine Situation Report: Reinforcements Stymie Russia’s Advance In Severodonetsk
Foreign fighters arrived at the frontline city Saturday as Ukraine commits more forces against the Russian onslaught.

Equipped with what appears to be a mix of Belgian-made FN SCAR-L, Czech CZ 802 BREN assault rifles, and NLAW rockets: light infantry ... increasing problem of Russian electronic warfare (EW) at the frontline. A report from the AP cited a Ukrainian intelligence official that Russian jamming is degrading both GPS receivers and lines of communication. The report specifically noted impacts on Ukrainian drones used to locate Russian forces and direct (as well as correct) artillery fire.

WiU Commenter 1:
Severodonetsk, the city is evacuated, so Ukrainian infantry in the city locate the Russian troops and just drop guided artillery shells on them its why the Russians falling back. i heard the Russians were low on ammo also and they had a hard time supplying the troops in the city cuz there is line of sight from the hill in Lyshansk for artillery and also the Byraktar drones hitting the supply trucks. also its international legion soldiers trained and experienced in other theaters of war vs the Russian scrubs and 20 year olds who have no experience. its infantry to infantry in the city, Russians can bring armor into the city or they sitting ducks. so the Russians getting their asses handed to them against combat vets from other theaters of war. its real professional soldiers vs amateurs basically.

HIMARS
WiU Commenter 2:
Living here in the States it’s my understanding that the 4 HIMARS systems on the way to Ukraine is not all they will ever receive. Rather, it’s essentially the set of 4 that the USA wants to monitor with respect to how they are utilized and secured from being captured by the Russians. Depending on the outcome there are 100 of these systems here in the States that could be sent to Ukraine without effecting the capabilities of our forces. As far as just 4. On the surface that might seem insignificant if you were thinking of using them as standard artillary. However, due to their range as well as the warhead on one of the types of rockets the system uses, which I believe is 200 pounds of HE, they would be invaluable at cutting off the supply system that must cross the ‘Dnipro’ river where one is near or at Vesele Becene and another is on both sides of the dam that bridges the river. Obviously this would be significant and something normal artillery could not really achieve.

WiU Commenter 3:
According UKINFORM, the US government has so far only supplied the Ukrainian army 130k rounds of 155 mm shells

••Orc political situation.
Two left Russia. One is former prime minister (1999-2004) Mikhail Kasyanov. The other is Minski, not popular with Russian people. Both were willing to negotiate with West.
No one left who is willing to find non-military solution.

••Running low on 152mm shells for Russian weapons.

••UA Scandals
A female Parliament member of the Presidents party came to the front lines of Severodonetsk. She immediately went to the command post and began micromanaging everyone - telling them what to do, what to attack with what forces, styling herself as the Commander of Forces in the area. (Edit: image shows a scrawny, half-moon-faced redhead in fatigues, that everyone in the room is assiduously avoiding.)

••This is insane. She is acting like a political commissar in Stalin’s Soviet Army. Frequently led to major disasters during war in Finland and WWII where politics commissars would shoot commanders on the spot who made mistakes or didn’t perform. She proposed law to shoot on the spot if troops try to retreat. Big uproar in Ukraine society. Her on front line is worst thing that could be done - a disastrous situation.

———————————————————————————————————————
Summary: Ukrainian counter-attack that allowed to gain control of some portion of Severodonetsk.

Key areas:
- Izyum bridgehead: no changes. -
Lyman bridgehead - only Svyatohirsk bridgehead remains in Ukrainian hands.
- Severodonetsk - Ukrainian troops gained control of Severodonetsk attached to Azot plant
- Popasna area: No changes.
- Svitlodarsk area: No changes.
- Donetsk West: no changes
- Kherson bridgehead: No changes.

1. Kharkiv: no changes, Ternova is captured by Russian forces, Rubizhne is in UA hands. Intensity of fighting has increased somewhat, Russian troops attempt to push Ukrainian troops further from the state border.
Forces Identified:
Orc: (200), (2 sfB), (59 TReg /144 D), (144 D), (?138)
UA: (?/93), (USA+UK Vols), (17 Bt), (Maj.127), (92), (?9/80), (113), (72), (227/127)
••Orcs want to keep buffer in order to keep shell Kharkiv and to keep UA from shelling Belogord and logistic centers
••Low grade troops replaced by DNR/LNR troops which are more willing to fight.

2. Izyum bridgehead. It is extremely dangerous penetration by Russian troops that potentially could lead to large pocket for Ukrainian troops west of Donetsk. Many Russian units from there were transferred to a salient near Popasna to exploit initial successes of Russian troops there. No changes today.
Forces Identified:
Orc: (38 only 100 troops remain from Bucha), (23), (39), (21), (64 only 100 troops remain from Bucha), (15/2mD), (24sfB), (12EngB), (30)
UA: (81), (93), (95), (?/25), (9/ 3/79)
••LPR Letter:
••LPR (2 AK) volunteer since May 2014 responsible for UAVs. Said high level of casualties from UA shelling forest; similar to Hürtgen Forest in Germany with shells hitting trees and sending rain of wood splinters everywhere, destroying troops and vehicles. Blames command for this poor tactical positioning. Worse no tools to dig trenches, save what they could loot from local homes.
••Each Brigade has 2000 soldiers reduced to 100 battle ready troops - 38 and 64.
••All the core of well trained troops lost. Replaced by 20 year olds.
••57 Brigade near Popasna is all 20 year olds.
••Mass desertions among mid and high level commands. When dangerous situation develops, they leave. Troops are on their own. (Also happens in UA army as well. The higher you go in the Orc/UA officer core, the worse quality people you find - from personal morals to skills to professional levels.)
••1AK (DPR) & 2 AK(LPR) things are so bad that recruits are often diabetics and need constant insulin injections.
••In a month or two will have no troops left to fight.

••This letter is quite long and only Part 1 is found in the comments, seems to be a letter reproduced on a Russian mil bloggers site (no links). Not verified. You have to scroll down a ways to read the post by Andrew Forest.

3. Lyman bridgehead. Only Svyatohirsk remains under Ukrainian control, Russian attack on it. Eventually, it will be lost similar to the rest of Lyman bridgehead.
••Siverski Donets River has become very shallow and easily crossed on foot in many places. Not good for UA defenses, but both side are extremely exhausted.

4. Rubizhne: captured by Russian troops

5. Severodonetsk - Ukrainian troops successfully counter-attacked and gained portion of the town near industrial facilities (”Azot” chemical plant). They also captured Syrotyne south of Severodonetsk.
Forces Identified:
Orc: (2 AK/2,4,7), (RGF Battle Group 90TD, not a BTG), (BG 76AD), (35), (57), (40 NB), (Wagner Group)
UA: (10), (46), (?/80), (?/30), (58), (17TB), (57), (?/115), (?/4 Ntl Gds B), (?/Int’l Vols B), (56), (24), (14)
••UA Int’l Vols launched counter attack yesterday. Southern part and approached center of town. Also attacked to south and may have taken a village. (Edit: This is basically experienced foreign troops from other wars fighting amateurs.)

6. Popasna area: No changes today.

7. Svtilodarsk area: No changes today.

8. West of Donetsk: Avdiyivka and Maryinka. No changes today.
••Orcs claiming downtown Donetsk shelled by UA. (Edit: It was shelled, but by who is unclear.)

9. Vugledar is in Ukrainian hands. No changes today.

10. Velyka Novosilka - Gulyapole stretch of frontline. No changes.

11. Kherson bridgehead: Ongoing fighting near Davydiv Brid and Snigurivka. No changes today.
Forces Identified:
Orc: (20 D), (7 AD), (7 MC), (126), (205), (10 sfB), (155 ?), ( 4 MC ?)
UA: (59), (Majority 28), (63), (35 NB), (60), (108)
••Quite a bit of positional shelling, But not much information.

Maybe Medvedev’s son will volunteer to fight in Ukraine? For some reason, I’m doubting it.

Belarus continues pulling equipment to the border with Ukraine

Poland or some other "friend of Ukraine" should declare war on Belarus (which is NOT a nuclear power) - maybe assert that the Polish minority there is being terrorized and/or "genocided" - and start pulverizing supply lines there.

After all, I once saw an image of some Belarus guy with a neo-Nazi tattoo, so (according to Putin's logic) that justifies invading the country in an attempt to "denazify" it, right?

Regards,

Any thoughts on this thread from Trent Telenko.

The video he is referring to is the recent capture of 3 POWs from other RuZZian units and forced into infantry.

Thanks again for your updates.

Interesting to see how the units from Bucha (38th and 64th) are being decimated in the Donbas meatgrinder.

I wonder to what degree they have been singled out to be cannon fodder, versus how common it is for Russian forces there to take those kind of losses.

This guy is echoing the letter in my WiU post. Both the DPR & LPR were directed to make suicide attacks on UA lines earlier - that is they as light infantry were order to make frontal assaults on entrenched and fortified UA positions.

Since this seems to be a topic I’ll post the Letter below. The letter was apparently sent to a Orc™(trigger word) blogger and was reposed on WiU. There is not link to the blog and there is no confirmation that the letter is accurate or even real.

NO FUCKING WAY, BLYAT! Part 1

The 35th army of RF AF, fighting in the forests near Izyum - they asked me to convey a message that, generally speaking, the task of destroying own forces was successfully completed by army’s command - the army is almost gone. To celebrate this event, the army received KAMAZ trucks loaded with shoe polish and toilet paper. The toilet paper, having traveled half the way under pouring rain in trucks with leaky roofs, of course, has fully soaked and without drying it is unsuitable for use (the question of large-scale hanging of the toilet paper to dry is being agreed with the command right now).

The task of destroying own troops was made easier for the command of the 35th army by the fact that, first of all, the army transferred from Far East, without the elements attached to it later, initially represented an incomplete corps with just two full motorized brigades forming the main strike force, and secondly, the forces were driven into the woods to fight the enemy, generally reproducing the conditions of the Hürtgen forest meat grinder of autumn-winter 1944 in the Western front of the Second World War, where the Germans managed for a while to successfully hold off the advance of the allies using only partially combat-ready units, using the terrain, strong points and a well-functioning fire system, primarily artillery.

The command of the army only needed to ensure that the forces would not get the necessary means to create various field fortifications and shelters. In forest conditions, when a major part of the enemy missiles and bombs explode at the top of the trees showering everything with shrapnel, this in general solves the question of destroying the personnel and light armored vehicles, half of which at the moment are non-functional for technical reasons, and another half - due to damage from said shrapnel.

The army command succeeded with this task. From tools for mechanization and fortification construction, the whole army had around 20 trench charges capable of somewhat increasing the speed of constructing one platoon-level strong point. There were not enough BSL-110 spades, picks were missing completely. The lack of spades for construction of at least some form of shelters was compensated by buying up spades from all around the area. At the same time the vehicles parked without shelters for which there were not tools to dig them out, were methodically being destroyed by the enemy.

Since the army did not have any volunteers capable of promptly purchasing and delivering at least some civilian communication equipment, the communications during the main period of hostilities were provided in the first line of battle formation by, at best, field phones TA-57, but for the most part - by messengers.

The enemy however, equipped with modern communication tools and using UAVs freely and on a large-scale, including commercial drones, had an opportunity to deliver substantial blows to our troops taking minimal effort to do so during the hostilities.

Thus, by early June the numbers of combat-ready infantry in certain motorized brigade battalions of the army successfully reached 12-15 people (64th brigade), the combined number of 38th and 64th motorized brigades - less than 100 of truly combat-ready infantry in each brigade. (Edit: the 38th and 64th have been tagged as the Brigades that committed the atrocities at Bucha.)

Wagner and Redut PMCs refused to assault the enemy positions in this area, saying they are not paid THAT MUCH money.

This correspondence received from a battle participant on our side allows us to have the correct answer to the question - “How successfully can the Russian army transfer and bring into combat the combined-arms formations across the whole country?”

The answer is - NO FUCKING WAY, BLYAT!
