Well they haven’t had much time. And all facts aren’t in yet.
They’ve had decades. There’s nothing at all new about corrupt and assaholic jerks in blue costumes abusing people and failing in their duties. The cops, as a community, have completely run out of excuses for the human debris in their ranks.
Who actually wants to be a cop these days? They have to take what they can get.
I chose not to be a cop (Fed, to be precise) more than thirty years ago ...
Any organization or group that fails to police itself will get policed. And they won’t like it.
The police have failed (flagrantly) to police themselves. Now they’re getting policed. And they don’t like it. And the cops who are worth something are more likely to say “fuggit” and do something else than are the true shitbirds. Which means the shitbird quotient is just getting higher. And the external “policing” is getting more severe.
But make no mistake: They brought it on themselves, starting decades ago.
Helluva price to pay for being “stylish”.
Good reminder that the politicians, who are the cops’ bosses, have their own culpability in the whole miserable mess.

I was a teacher, schools tend to have equipment (tractors/skid steers/trucks/etc.) available.
Someone should have been able to breech a door or even a wall in less time.
