U.S. officials, worried about domestic security issues, have been questioning Americans at airports as they travel to Ukraine to fight Russia.
Critics say the focus on “violent extremist-white supremacists” echoes one of the Kremlin’s top propaganda points: that supporting Ukraine means also supporting neo-Nazis.
The bulletin also highlights a concern U.S. officials hold: that American white supremacists who fight in Ukraine could return to the U.S. with greater military training.
“Ukrainian nationalist groups including the Azo[v] Movement are actively recruiting racially or ethnically motivated violent extremist-white supremacists (RMVE-WS) to join various neo-Nazi volunteer battalions in the war against Russia,” the report said.
“What kind of training are foreign fighters receiving in Ukraine that they could possibly proliferate in US based militia and white nationalist groups?” the document also asked.
Russian propagandists often point to the Azov Battalion and other far-right Ukrainian paramilitaries to bolster the claim that Nazis have overrun Ukraine.
In a recent Washington Post interview, the head of the battalion, Andriy Biletskiy, said the group “completely” rejects Nazism. The Post noted that he has been quoted previously making white supremacist statements, and now denies having made those comments. The article quoted Bellingcat’s Michael Colborne, who has written a book on the battalion, saying that “there are clearly neo-Nazis” within the Azov movement’s ranks.
Because of concerns about the group, the 2018 National Defense Authorization Act banned the provision of U.S. military aid to the battalion. Facebook has also banned the group, as BuzzFeed News reported.
“Turning a blind eye to white supremacists fight alongside Azov in Ukraine would be equally reckless as doing the same to Western jihadists leaving to fight in the Middle East.”

There's no indication so far that any will be prosecuted, but that's up to the whim of government any time in the future.
They were all checked for Nazi tattoos, many had them, and are getting special attention.
Better yet, what governments trained the Nazi extremists in Ukraine? The US, Canada, France and the UK. I forgot funding, plenty of that, wonder who got it and where it all went? Questions, questions...
It isn’t just Azov. There were many other volunteer Battalions full of atrocity-loving Banderites who systematically brutalized ethnic Russians. Aidar (aydar), Donbas, Tornado, Right Sector, and so on. Some have been “disbanded” only to be in reality incorporated into key positions in the regular military.
It really bothers me that are government.
Believes and acts like they should control us once we leave the country.
I understand to the extent that our government doesn’t need to deal with family members of these mercenaries wailing in front of cameras imploring our government to rescue them if things head south; leaving the country works both ways.
So "U.S. officials" have figured out that if you Lay Down With Nazis, you get up Nazi.
Well that's no surprise, and it's also no surprise that "U.S. officials" want to Deep Swamp misdirect the blame from The Violent American Far Leftist Marxist Democrats to the almost Non-Existent White Separatists.
Ukes and Democrats Just Gotta Nazi, ... it's in their Blood.
“RMVE-WS”
...and, another acronym.

Our Genius Generals spent twenty years and trillions of dollars losing to the Taliban, leaving billions in weapons behind, and the Taliban only had AK-47s and improvised IEDs, and no air assets at all.
But I’m sure the Genius Generals of the Pentagon would do MUCH better against Russia, right next door to Russia.
Especially now that we have Lady Rangers.
Yet we still have FReepers denying the existence of NAZIs in Ukraine and the US supporting them.
I guess the Nazis in Ukraine only exist when they’re needed to make US conservatives look bad.
Russia also uses Neo Nazis. Weird how people keep leaving that out
“ that American white supremacists who fight in Ukraine could return to the U.S. with greater military training.”
A few years ago the same people were panicked that MS13 members were enlisting to learn “specialized elite military training” to take home to the bario and use it to terrorize frightened snowflakes.
I’m not aware of anyone denying there are nazis in Ukraine. Faahsands of ‘em, to coin a phrase from Zulu.
We just think you have to be a little bit more, well, observant.
Russia has a massive, undisguised HARD ON for Nazis with guns, so long as they’re Nazis on Russia’s payroll. Their military is not free of neo Nazis and swastikas. Wagner is a Nazi franchise. So is the DPR.
But they’re all okay in he Kremlin book as long as they’re doing what they’re being paid to do.
You want to denazify Donbass fully, after Azovstal’s been bug-hunted for stragglers? Easy. Get the DPR Nazis and Rashists, Wagner’s professional Nazis and the Chechen Islamonazis to all start shooting each other.
The other issue with the Ukes R Nazis narrative is, it is 8 years old and massively out of date.
Poroshenko was the main Nazi enabler. He, and the other Nazi politicians, were voted out in 2019. Z hasn’t been particularly brilliant at eliminating the Nazis from the National Guard, but he did at least get it to a point where civilian casualties in the Azov Nazis vs DPR Nazis/Rashists conflict in Donbas had reduced to under 30 a year.
The third issue is, Putin and the Kremlin spent 2 months telling RUSSIA repeatedly on telly, in newspapers and in long editorials that its definition of Nazification is, anything that looks west instead of east, favours an open society over a closed society, and refuses to be subservient to the Kremlin. Look it up. And that message actually failed to land.
Funny thing... The Kremlin had to change its own propaganda policy because their own loyal proles found their own regime’s messaging too contradictory, too convoluted and too counterfactual to be true.
The Kremlin itself basically complained, half of Russia responded “I thought Nazis were fans of 1930s German ideology, like that Wagner chap?” And the other half went “De-der-nikinakinazififufic... We give up, that made up word is simply far too long, and doesn’t make sense anyway, durp.”
Put it this way: if even Russia’s smartest people AND it’s most viscerally anti-nazi survivors of World War 2, and even its most unswervingly mince-thick stoner Gomer Pyles ALL call bullshit on Putin’s Denazification narrative, but you do not call bullshit, you’re not immune to propaganda.
Twenty years fighting, and eventually losing, to goat herders with AK-47s, and now people are saying the Russians are doing terrible because they haven’t completely taken over an industrialized country with and organized army and modern weapons. War is hard.
Irony, & hypocrisy.
smh
It really bothers me that our government believes and acts like they should control us AT ALL.
Pavel Gubarev is a Ukrainian pro-Russian activist who proclaimed himself the "People's Governor" of the Donetsk Region at the Regional Assembly on 3 March 2014, after separatists seized the building. Gubarev had earlier declared himself leader of the Donbas People's Militia.
Putin's followers cultivated ties with OB88, the most powerful skinhead gang in Russia. - which expanded in the aftermath of Ukraine's Orange Revolution of 2004. To insulate Russia against the contagion of pro-democracy protest, the Kremlin transformed Moving Together into a more ambitious project called "Nashi", or "Ours".
As part of its preparations to confront a potential democratic uprising in Russia, Nashi enlisted football gang members, whose subculture overlapped with the neo-Nazi underground.
In 2008-2010 Putin was threatened by Russian opposition activist Alexei Navalny's efforts to build an anti-Putin coalition of democrats and radical nationalists in Russia. In response, the Kremlin began to work with Russkii Obraz ("Russian Image", or "RO" for short), a hardcore neo-Nazi group

RO's leader, Ilya Goryachev, was a fervent supporter of the neo-Nazi underground, the skinheads who committed hundreds of racist murders in the second half of the 2000s. The authorities turned a blind eye to RO's production of a two-hour internet "documentary" titled Russian Resistance, which celebrated these killers as patriotic heroes and called for armed struggle against the regime. here's a link to Putin's neo-Nazis killing what they considered "untermenschen"
Anna Bogacheva, on the US sanctions list for running Prigozhin's troll factory in St Petersburg, was previously linked to the neo-nazi group Russky Obraz, the political wing of the murderous group known as BORN.
For sure.
Not to mention that guy with the,SS tags who recently got a medal from Putin...
