Very similar to the Germans, the Japanese had some fantastic early successes, which helped convince them and the world they were unstoppable.

But they were mostly flukes, brought about by the other side fighting the last war.

As the war progressed, it became obvious the technology and industrial power, as well as tactical acumen, were on the American side of the Japanese/American conflict.

We seem to be seeing a similar thing in Ukraine (in a much reduced scale). The Russian technology, industrial power, and tactical acumen, is a war behind what they face in the modern weaponry, tactics, intelligence, and cyber technology the Ukrainians have mustered, even though much of it is from the West. (And the West has a huge advantage in technology and industrial power, compared to the Russians).

Probably the biggest difference is one of morale. The Ukrainians have the home court advantage, as did the British, Russians, and Americans in WWII.

My suspicion is the German soldiers had far higher morale in WWII than the Russian soldiers do now.

That's why I posted that famous picture of a Murderer's Row of American fleet carriers.

I think Russians just endure.

I've spoken of this before. You see it in the resurgence of the Orthodox faith in Russia, after brutal suppression and wanton killing under the Red Tsars.

It is worse than that for the Russians, they are fighting this war using tactics from the 1960's and weapons that are at best from the 1970's. While the Ukrainians are using much of the same equipment, with training from the US and some off the shelf drone tech to devastating effect.

How is all that stuff gonna get there from Germany, Poland, or the Black Sea, let alone from the US?

Vlad started blowing up the railroads about 15 minutes after Austin and Cupcake left town. It will take months to ship stuff there via the Black Sea.

Russia has the advantage of much shorter supply lines, it would seem.
