Q: Were you surprised by Joe Biden’s actions, his decisiveness and efficiency?
A: What I like about him is his clarity and modesty. He also proved to be efficient in terms of tactics.

This is the Babylon Bee — isn’t it?

When Jen Psaki steps down, I think Snyder should take her place. He seems to have the requisite degree of honesty.

This asshat sucked me in until I read what you posted, and obviously the whole article is bullcrap.

He’s delusional if he thinks the US did NOT want this war. He’s also crazy thinking that Biden didn’t have much to do with it. Leaving Afghanistan, not providing aid to Ukraine back in November when the US supposedly could see the Russians collection on the borders.

I don’t understand why this article was posted to begin with. It’s mental masturbation.....

That’s the same point I stumbled and stopped reading.
Has he never seen Biden try to talk off a teleprompter use?

It is interesting that Snyder talks about the fact that Putin says it’s God’s will he unite Russia and Ukraine.

Russia does not believe In Christianity. Putin is just using his version of “Russian Orthodox” religion to convince himself and the world that he is right, that he is a “godly” figure…. Perhaps even a “messianic” figure if you will.

I firmly believe that….

” we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. “(Ephesians 6:12)

Putin is clearly part of the above mentioned “spiritual wickedness in high places.“

“I’ve been following Putin for years, what he writes and speaks. He believes he’s another Prince Volodymyr the Great, whose purpose is to accomplish the latter’s mission that began over a thousand years ago, namely to restore Russia’s former empire by re-uniting Ukraine with Russia. Not only physically and in terms of territory and politics, but primarily in a dialectical way. Until this union takes place there is no Russia, it will emerge only after uniting with Ukraine.”

Boy doesnt he sound like a well known despot in relatively recent history?

“In 2013, Putin visited Kyiv and stated that the union must take place either way, because it’s God’s will and politicians cannot go against it. There were a number of such statements and I take them very seriously. “

Huge oil and gas fields were discovered in the Ukraine in 2012 and in 2013 Putin feels an urgent call from “God” to unite. WELL HOW ABOUT THAT!!

CREDITS OF TIMOTHY D. SNYDER

“Timothy David Snyder is an American author and historian specializing in the history of Central and Eastern Europe and the Holocaust. He is the Richard C. Levin Professor of History at Yale University and a permanent fellow at the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna. He has written several books, including the best-sellers Bloodlands: Europe Between Hitler and Stalin and On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century.

Snyder is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Committee on Conscience of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

Snyder has held fellowships at the French National Centre for Scientific Research in Paris from 1994 to 1995, the Institut für die Wissenschaften vom Menschen in Vienna in 1996, the Olin Institute for Strategic Studies at Harvard University in 1997, and was an Academy Scholar at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard University from 1998 to 2001.

He has also been an instructor at the College of Europe Natolin Campus, the Baron Velge Chair at the Université libre de Bruxelles, the Cleveringa Chair at the Leiden University, Philippe Romain Chair at the London School of Economics, and the 2013 René Girard Lecturer at Stanford University. Prior to assuming the Richard C. Levin Professorship of History, Snyder was the Bird White Housum Professor of History at Yale University.

He is a member of the Committee on Conscience of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. On 25 September 2020, he was named as one of the 25 members of the “Real Facebook Oversight Board”, an independent monitoring group over Facebook. He serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Modern European History and East European Politics and Societies.

For the academic year 2013–2014, he held the Philippe Roman Chair of International History at the London School of Economics and Political Science

Snyder has written five books and co-edited two. He says that he speaks five European languages and reads ten. This enables him to use primary and archival sources in Germany and Central Europe in his research. Snyder has stressed that in order to engage in such transnational history, knowing other languages is very important, saying “If you don’t know Russian, you don’t really know what you’re missing.”

In 2010, Snyder published Bloodlands: Europe Between Hitler and Stalin. Bloodlands was a best seller[16] and has been translated into 20 languages. In an interview with Slovene historian Luka Lisjak Gabrijelčič in 2016, Snyder described the book as an attempt to overcome the limitations of national history in explaining the political crimes perpetrated in Eastern Europe in the 1930s and 1940s:

The point of Bloodlands was that we hadn’t noticed a major event in European history: the fact 13 million civilians were murdered for political reasons in a rather confined space over a short period of time. The question of the book was: ‘How this could have happened?’ We have some history of Soviet terror, of the Holocaust, of the Ukrainian famine, of the German reprisals against the civilians. But all of these crimes happened in the same places in a short time span, so why not treat them as a single event and see if they can be unified under a meaningful narrative.”

TOTALLY AGREE! IMO, PUTIN IS DELUSIONAL!

“Putin, who believes no Ukrainian nation exists, has a more radical perspective compared to Stalin; it takes us back to Hitler’s idea of human masses that can be quickly broken by willful violent actions.

Thus, we’re way beyond conventional politics, face to face with classical tyranny. We’re dealing with an aged leader whose mindset is based not on contemporary categories, but on the concept of eternity. From Putin’s perspective, facts don’t really matter. He either takes no notice of the practical barriers that we’re aware of or believes them to be western propaganda or a delusion. In essence, Putin sees the world as he himself perceives it.”

Yes, Putin is a genius in his own mind! LOL

PUTIN’S MINDSET REVEALED BY HIS STATEMENTS:
“But, if one follows Putin’s statements or reads articles hinting at his plans, the following can be noted: for at least ten years, he’s been repeating that Ukraine’s existence as a nation and a state has no foundation and no justification. And that God wants Russia and Ukraine to be united. He mentioned this in the [State] Duma following the 2012 elections. In 2013, Putin visited Kyiv and stated that the union must take place either way, because it’s God’s will and politicians cannot go against it. There were a number of such statements and I take them very seriously.”

Professor Timothy Snyder - has compared Trump to Hitler, Has compared Jan. 6 protestors to Nazi Stormtroopers, and has promoted the notion that Trump is controlled by Russia.

This guys is a nut-case.

The only time I noticed he voiced concerns about President Trump was when he was in Vienna, Austria. In January, he was ‘framed’ by media by only receiving the news agenda fed to him.

January of 2021! Of course this was after accurate info of the peaceful January 6th Trump Rally.

Of course, the press then & continues now to frame as riot &/or insurrection for their agenda.

Biden’s efficiency? That speaks volumes about who this guy is. The Europeans have been going Biden one better on the sanctions front, while restraining him on the arms-for-Ukraine front. Grandpa Simpson is being lead around by European diplomats as surely as he is by Jill and his White House ‘handlers’.

Putin doesn’t need to be a believer to use the Russian Orthodox religion to lend legitimacy to his actions and indeed his entire regime’s existence. But your right... Russia is about as ‘orthodix’ as France is ‘catholic’. It’s a label, but still an important one.
