An ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin has been found dead alongside members of his family in his multi-million dollar apartment in Moscow....
Avayev was previously employed at Gazprombank, which is a key part of Putin's gas-for-roubles scheme to hit back at Western sanctions.....

My impression is that it was a pretty messed-up society before the Bolsheviks took over (mostly based on 19th-century Russian novels I have read).
Karl Marx had only contempt for Russia (either because of its backwardness or because they were Slavs).
Going after Putin would be the nuclear bomb approach (i.e. shooting him in the head) as the entire communist apparatus would immediately fall down on your head and you and your family would be dead.
Shooting one of Putin’s supporters and his family seems mob like to me and the mob loves to “send CLEAR messages”.
Gorky Park.
Russia is looking like the Chicago mobs in the 1930’s.
The Kremlin went to great lengths to put a similar story out a couple of weeks ago- about the same time as the story about Shoigu having an artifical heart attack.
Back then Americans thinking they were doing deals in Russia were mostly doing deals at the Night Flight in Moscow.
The actual history will lead to the same conclusion in a much more compelling way. :-(
It's really interesting to follow Russian vlog'ers who are just ordinary people, not trying to be travel agents or anything. Most Russians are really poor, the young tend to really resent it, but feel hopeless for any change in Russia, resulting in a brain drain of the more ambitious as they leave for Western countries. A common reply to the question of "Why don't Russians smile" is "There's nothing to smile about." (That brings to mind a song by Michael Been and The Call...) (GREAT tune, but not one to listen to too often!)

Yeah, Marx is a reliable reference.
I’m not endorsing Marx’s attitude...but it is ironic that the first country to try to put his ideology into practice was one that he had contempt for.
Makes perfect sense: his sponsors were looking to take down Russia.
