Expanding NATO was not part of MAGA circa 2016.
***NATO wasn’t paying their fair share of the burden in 2016, and probably still aren’t. Making them pay their fair share does MAGA. As it pertains to Ukraine, who already had a MAP in place, it made sense to expand NATO to them else Russia wouldn’t have invaded. There’s a bit of a large duhh factor to that part of the equation.
You got Finns to the left, Finns to the right, and you're the only bait in town.
Go ahead Putin and pull NATO in and see what you’ve got left when it’s over.
The way things are looking, the best bet for any of the countries butting up against Russia would be to play Switzerland, the way it used to be.
The way Switzerland used to be before the 1700s was the country that sent the most mercenaries to fight all over Europe.
That legacy is seen in the Vatican swiss guards.
Switzerland was conquered by Napoleon.
It only became neutral after their own civil war in the mid 1800s.
Also, the swiss were next to be conquered by Germany after the Soviet union was crushed. They just got lucky.
Now with Putin’s aggression, a new NATO rule should be 2% spend or else the get 2 years notice to leave.
