Peak Clown World; San Diego Redesigns Two Lane Road Into a SINGLE Lane with TWO-WAY Traffic. All to Combat Climate Change

The city of San Diego has catapulted off a cliff in woke climate change stupidity.

City officials, without consultation or announcement, redesigned a two-lane road along a stretch of Gold Coast Drive in the Mira Mesa suburb that accommodates two lanes of bike traffic but only one center lane for vehicles.

But the road remains a two-way street for vehicular traffic, throwing every ounce of common sense out of the window.

The city’s reckless actions have even confused and angered some liberal residents.

But it isn’t a one-way road; it’s still a two-way traffic road with a single lane. Vehicles are expected to dodge each other as they drive toward head-on collisions.

“This is not safe for anybody. I don’t know why any city would do something like this,” said local resident Tommy Hough, who is running for city council.

“Gold Coast is essentially two streets – the length from Black Mountain Rd. to Camino Ruiz (east) is the worst road in the city. Everyone here knows it. Not good for bicycles or cars. The shorter length from Camino Ruiz to Parkdale (west) is newer and regularly resurfaced,” he noted further in a tweet.

Residents told KUSI’s Dan Plante that it’s not only laughable, but they think the new design is much more dangerous than it was before. To make matters worse, the City of San Diego didn’t consult or notify anybody in the community before they did it.

As KUSI’s Dan Plante reports, this is just the latest example of the City’s, “Climate Action Goals Gone Wild.”

Democrat San Diego City Council candidate, Tommy Hough, believes the redesign is absurd.

Plante says the Mira Mesa area is being used by the City of San Diego to experiment with their Climate Change initiatives.

The only Republican on San Diego City Council, Chris Cate, represents this area, and told KUSI he was left out of the loop about this shocking redesign.

Odd that this would get past their legal department but I guess one can do no wrong in Cali these days.

The clown council in my town made a two lane busy road going downtown into a freaking single with a bike lane because they have a couple of tournaments each year. I’m in a Republican town in a very Republican county. They are as lamebrained as the Democrats.

They apply the effeminate term “traffic calming” to the motorist-unfriendly change to the traffic pattern and call it a day.

It’s happening in municipalities nationwide. Duck lanes, turtle lanes, chipmunk crossings, who cares. It’s a racket, somebody’s getting paid off on the taxpayer’s dime.

It will cut down on emissions ... when cars collide and cause hours-long traffic jams.

Hopefully people who have accidents will sue the city.

I have a friend in the neighborhood and drive this street a couple times a month. Absolute stupidity. It was already a safe street for bikes. There has only been 1 accident reported in over a DECADE, and it didn’t involve a bicycle. This is the kind of crap ultra-liberal cyclists push through, with the help of idiots who think regular people shouldn’t be allowed to own cars.

same here in L.A. In order to accommodate minority bicycles in an already congested downtown, the one lane idiocy even ties up public transit..all for bicyclists who dont even show up at the downtown core and bike on the sidewalk.

During Friday and Thursday rush hour, just to go thru SIX blocks takes 30 minutes, I kid you not.

“....But it isn't a one-way road; it's still a two-way traffic road with a single lane......”

I am not saying that this didn't happen, I am just saying that “technically” it can't happen. Let me explain, in California all “public roads” must be designed by a professional and licensed engineer. (Yes, I have a California Professional Engineers License, but I don't design roads.) In addition roads must be designed to both Federal Highway Administration Manuals and Standards as well as to CalTrans Highway Design Manual and Specifications.

Generally, most public works “road” projects are funded by state and federal grants, which require compliance with they federal and state highway design manuals and standards.

I would wager that the “road” in question is not a “road” in the normal sense of the word, or that someone who doesn't like this has a great opportunity for a lawsuit against the City, the responsible engineer of record, and a host of others.

If I were to guess, I would wager that the “road” was reclassified as something else during its permitting process and that federal and state highway funds might not have been used. I could be wrong, but this should not happen if it is a two-lane “road.”

Drivers with experience driving in Ireland, Scotland or rural England will have no issues with this. Most if not all roads in those countries rural areas are one lane of tarmac at best. The common practice is to look ahead and see if an on coming vehicle is between you and the next turn out or pull over shoulder. If you are closer to the pull out or turn out you enter that first and wait for them to pass you. Smile wave and pull back into the motorway. If there is no pull out then you stop head to head and look to see who is closest to the shoulder space in front or behind the meeting spot who ever is closer backs up yes backs up to the pull out this is common law in the UK. Most of the time the tarmac plus grass shoulder is wide enough for one car to pull off and left the other pass without backing up. Yanks make such to do about nothing. It’s comical to watch Yanks try to negotiate properly a round about as well.
