Democrats are desperately trying to understand what’s roiling the electorate heading into a brutal midterm environment.
HIT Strategies has been conducting weekly focus groups to find out in real time how Americans are processing events in 2022. On Monday night we watched discussions with two different subgroups of partisan Democrats assembled by the firm: “Black Base, Always vote for Dems, Ages 25+” and “Youth Base; Always vote for Dems, Ages 25 – 39.”
There were significant differences within and between the two groups of nine voters. But there were some broad takeaways:
— A preoccupation with inflation and crime. — Exhaustion with pandemic restrictions. — Cynicism about politics. — Deep frustration that President JOE BIDEN and Democrats have failed to deliver on their early promises. — Sympathy for Ukraine mixed with a lack of enthusiasm for Biden spending too much time and money on the issue. — Ambiguity about how important Jan. 6 should be for Democrats in the midterms.
These sentiments are captured in recent polling: Biden’s decline in approval from Black voters and millennials has been well documented, as of course has the rise in importance of inflation, crime and pandemic fatigue.

It doesn’t matter who is upset, unhappy or feels disenfranchised. They cheated to get in and will do it again.
That's not a 'study', that's beers on Friday night. Politico is garbage.

I disagree with the premise.
I don’t think any of them are in distress.
I think Politico is in distress about Biden. They’ve spun themselves into a hole and can’t get out.
This is all very puzzling for Democrats. They have the media. The Dems, the media, and the teacher’s unions have collaborated to render the American public as stupid as possible. Why doesn’t the public believe them when they tell them things are great, the economy is not just good, it’s too good?
One glitch. The American public wants immediate gratification, and will be as immediate with their fixation of blame. The Biden criminal crew has been in control long enough that the public’s limited attention is fixed on them. When it costs $100 to fill up your SUV and your government tells you to “just buy an EV”, that doesn’t satisfy. The Dems will be punished in 2022.
Why Biden’s base is in distress
Depends.
Depends is only designed to hold so much s#!t, and so naturally his base is in distress.
Right. As long as they’ve hired enough people to stuff ballot drop boxes in the dead of night, and as long as the Dominion software is coded properly, they have nothing to worry about. The most extensive voter fraud organization in history is still working.
Looks like a demon
Everyone can see the deterioration of Biden, he’s looking worse every week and sounding outright loony. If I were a Democrat I’d be in “distress.”
I should add, obviously it’s time for a change.
There just has to be a reason that’s not as plain as the nose on Joey’s face.

It appears the Democrat base is experiencing cognitive dissonance: what happens when someone’s false assumptions about the nature of reality are contradicted by experience.
Seems as if there’s a disturbance in the Dark Side of the Force for Darth Dementia.
