This video talks about manpower figures relating to the war in Ukraine. How many troops did each side lose, how many are left, how many troops has Ukraine mobilized and what's stopping Russia to rush ahead with a huge army.

12 minute video. Binkov's Battlegrounds is run by a group of YouTube military enthusiasts. Binkov is their comedic/hook front end to draw viewers in, a communist Kermit the Frog. This looks at the manpower issues between both sides, training, quality, available troops, and mobilization over time. There are too many points and numbers for me to fully summarize. Short version:

No matter how disastrous it seems, no matter how much Ivan screwed up, it’s all part of Putin’s plan.

The Russian logistical tail is over 1,000 miles long. Their equipment is crap before it gets loaded. A great deal of it is scrap metal before it ever hits the Ukrainian border.

Russian troops are poorly trained ignorant peasant conscripts. Their officer corps is a corrupt mess. Their non commissioned officers are too busy raping their recruits to do any actual training. Their maintenance practices are non existent. Everything of any value has already been stolen.

The entire Russian military is a tissue of lies.

Saying these things does not make me a fan of the Ukrainian government. They’re also a corrupt mess. But they’re fighting on their home turf.

And I hate bullies. Russia started this. Therefore the Russian military deserves every single thing that happens to them.

The Donbass cauldron will probably put a real crimp in the Ukrainian army’s style...

One factor that is starting to come to light as Ukrainian forces retake territory is that at least some of the Russian losses were not incurred by Ukraine.

Russian forces sustained casualties and damage in areas that Ukraine was unable to attack leading to the conclusion that incidents of friendly fire took place on the Russian side.

Some of the indications are of armor vs. armor but most of the indications are of air-to-ground and ground-to-air friendly fire incidents. This could explain the relative absence of Russian air assets in this war.

Russia needs to get humiliated. Putin gets overthrown. The new leader is similar to Peter the Great so he will look to the West. A lot of folks from Moscow and St. Petersburg will support his government. The military gets downsized. Perhaps Russia will join the 20th Century (ha).

My guess is that there’s a HUGE difference in motivation and the will to fight.

Most of Putin’s subjects are uninterested in conquering the Ukraine and could care less about about reuniting the old Soviet Union. Given this background, many, or even most, of his Soldiers cold be getting fairly demoralized and dispirited by the setbacks they’ve faced.

The Ukraine, on the other hand, quite rightly considers this as a dastardly and unprovoked attack. For them it’s a matter of courage, honor and survival to repel the invaders.

It’s not so much a difference in the total size as it is the difference in the number of hearty men who are available and motivated to put up a fight.

Ukraine is also getting varying amounts of support from the rest of the world while Russia faces growing sanctions from almost everywhere other than China.

View all things geopolitical through the prism of oil or you will never understand.

Oil is everything. Has been for about 100 years now.

Study reserves, but understand their categories. Proven Reserves, Unproven Reserves, Discovered Reserves, Undiscovered Reserves, Technically Recoverable Reserves, Technically Unrecoverable Reserves, Economically Recoverable Reserves, Economically Unrecoverable Reserves.

And understand . . . quota. Saudi Arabia has declared 260 Billion Barrels of Discovered, Recoverable Reserves for about 40 years, and they pump out 4.5 billion barrels/year.

The point there being there is an enormous amount of lying going on about oil.

But not in Russia. They don’t need to. That geographic surface area is rich in hydrocarbons below it. This is the key reality and it’s very likely a few people in the US intelligence services have gotten briefings (as Putin has from Rosneft).

The key reality is Russia is going to dominate the planet. Their oil will run out last. This is a crushing reality and the only fix for it is outright invasion and taking of possession of east AND west siberia, and the Kara sea.

It’s not going to happen.

The average calorie you ate today traveled about 1500 miles to reach your mouth, and not a single mouthful of that was hauled with electric. It was diesel.

Oil is everything. We’re going to lose.

I speak Russian.

And German, French and a wee bit of Polish and Scots Gaelic.

And American English better than 98% of the country.

I'm educated, that's all.

Neocon Schwab stooge-chickenhawks mistake that for "supporting Pooty".

“No American I know can speak that many languages.”

I came up in the 1980’s and learned a smattering of Russian, French, German, Spanish, Hebrew, and Japanese. I’ve also picked up some Arabic, Dari, Pashto, and Urdu along the way.

I speak none of it fluently but enough that I can order a beer and also enough to know when I’m in trouble.

In my circles this is not unusual and I’m probably a bit of a slacker compared to several of my friends.

The boys at The Duran mentioned the production of the Saudi oil fields last week, and how The Kingdom didn't seem to be able to increase production to reflect the current demand.

It was an interesting few comments.

There is a section in the book Starving The Monkeys [Tom Baugh]:

Chapter 6, The Font of Value

“Energy is the foundation of civilization, and liquid fuel
the key pillar in that foundation. So, if one wanted to
bring that civilization to its knees a good path to follow would be to:”

* Demonize traditional liquid fuels and discourage their use
through punitive taxation or regulation, despite their high
quality and utility, at any price.

It's a great chapter on energy, The Real Deal.

Excellent post, Owen, BTW.

The salutatorian of my high school class [still a good pal these many years later] speaks twice as many languages as I do. He can pass for a Castilian Spaniard.

We're just educated, that's all.

Now, I like Okies, and know a few of them.

Stay in your lane, stick close to your "fraidy hole" ['tis the season!] and you'll be OK, Okie.   winking face
