February 27, 2022 was senior day at the University of Connecticut. In honor of their senior Dorka Juhász, who is from Hungary, the national anthem of Hungary was played prior to the playing of the United States national anthem. The players were all on the court. That's class.
The South Carolina women's basketball team plays UConn today for the National Championship. I am a UConn fan but regardless of who was playing South Carolina, I'd want UNSC to lose. Led by its coach Dawn Staley, the UNSC women's team hates the United States of America and refuse to stand or even be present for the US national anthem. In an interview Staley said:
I was in my office when I saw what was happening and taking place at the U.S. Capitol.Read that again. From this quote you can see clearly that Staley conflates Jan 6 with the George Floyd's killing. Jan 6 was not racially motivated and multiple races participated. Staley's diatribe descends quickly into meaninglessnessTo hear everything that’s coming out of what took place last Wednesday is truly disheartening. It really is. It’s disheartening because it didn’t just happen spontaneously. No. It was planned, and it was executed perfectly in their eyes. Perfectly. Their actions have left us with a big dark cloud over our democracy, and I don’t know if we’ll ever be the same. That’s a blemish in our American history.
The majority of our players has sat during the playing of the national anthem every game this season – a decision made by our players to bring awareness to racial injustice in our country. If opposing teams choose to play the anthem during the time we’re in the locker room, then we choose to stay in the locker room.
That is her why, and until we’re able to come to the table with tangible things that change the way that people are treated – people of color, Black people, minorities – how they’re treated in this world, in our country, then I think our players will be open to that. Until that happens, they stand strong in their protest.Staley says that they're refusing to be present for the US national anthem because of how the world treats minorities. It's grandly egotistic to think that anyone really gives a damn what a bunch of spoiled kids think. This is such a terrible country- a country that treats minorities so badly that out of 12 members of the UNSC team, 10 are black and so is the coach. I'll bet that every single one of the team members is on scholarship. It's such a terrible country that Staley signed a seven-year contract worth $22.4 million.
It must be nice to indulge themselves in the luxury of this fabulous narcissism. Their current position is a product of the best of this country, not the worst, and they should be grateful for what life has given them.
Three other men died in the same manner as George Floyd- two were white and one Hispanic. Again, I would bet big money that neither Staley nor her team could name a single one of them. I can name them all. None of this team gave a damn about those three deaths and neither did most people. Their lives didn't matter.
Staley and her team are emblematic of everything wrong in this country. They can sit there in their exalted situations and pontificate about what's wrong with the country instead of what's right. And they are enjoying the fruits of what's right in this country, as are all of the young twits in colleges majoring in fascism and minoring in hate of country and I can tell you exactly why.
There really is no such thing as need. Today, there is only want.
My parents grew up in the depression. They had almost nothing except for needs. Along with millions of Americans they worked their way through this. My father became a combat vet in WWII and was the first one in his family to go to college. He provided the best he could for his family. He reduced our needs. It was a comfortable life. My siblings and I took that lesson and worked our backsides off for what we have, realizing that you are entitled to nothing more than what you work for. I caddied from the age of 10 to 16 and the day I turned 16 I obtained my driver's license and went to work at a highway gas station where, over a period of eight years I worked 21 of 24 Thanksgivings, Christmases and New Year's Days. I did not expect my children to necessarily do the same, but to give their parents the best they could in school. They did, and they appreciate what they have now.
The greatest generation knew one thing better than we ever will- and that is need.

They played the Hungarian Anthem first as a tribute to their teammate, then the US Anthem as normal JUST BEFORE tipoff as it usually is.
Anything played before the US Anthem is for the fans or a tribute of some sort. Nothing nefarious here.
