On March 29, 2022, Florida Governor DeSantis held a press conference. At about 6:30 minutes, he announced he vetoed the Congressional district map put forward by the Florida legislature. He took questions after his announcements. There was a question about other issues. Governor Desantis responded. From thefloridachannel.org, here is a transcript:
I would love to have property insurance. I would love to have data privacy. I would love to have Constitutional Carry. There’s a lot of great things. But you know we just went through a legislative session where they failed to deliver on some of those priorities, and so what I will do, I will ask the legislative leaders if there is something you can get across the finish line, and I will encourage them to do that. Because I think there is a lot of key things they could do.
That is a possibility. The initial call will just be for the Congressional map, but is absolutely possible, that when we actually convene, when they actually convene for the Special Session, that you could see additional issues raised there.
Florida Representative Anthony Sabatini tweeted that Governor DeSantis is calling a Special Legislative Session to pass Constitutional Carry:
BREAKING:
is calling a Special Legislative Session to pass Constitutional Carry
The tweet by Representative Sabatini is rather optimistic, it appears. The answer to the question was at the press conference. Governor DeSantis merely stated Constitutional Carry would be a bonus; the main purpose was to have a new Congressional map. Governor DeSantis mentioned the actual proclamation had not been completed.

The local criminals and the illegal alien criminals already carry (have since time immemorial) without ever asking for a ‘permit’ from government.
You still have to pass the NICS background check to purchase a gun and the new Georgia CC bill says you must be eligible for a CC permit in order to constitutional carry. You just don’t have to get one. So without a green card you can’t pass the the NICs background check. Or get a CC permit. If illegals get caught carrying its a crime.
If they were gonna carry, no law was going to stop them.
Permitting laws are only for law-abiding citizens.
Yes.
With any luck they will kill off their own co-ethnics.
Or they might just turn out to be law-abiding citizens who mind their own business and stay out of trouble. Like most second-generations of immigrants.
Laws do not prevent criminals from getting and using firearms. They prevent law-abiding citizens from getting firearms and leave them defenseless against predators. That is the entire point of those laws.
Lol! There is no requirement to be a U.S. Citizen to get a CCW permit.
Permanent residents with a green card who are not yet citizens are eligible for the permit.
Does it burn you up that “those people” can get a gun?
Heh heh... I guess that’s why they’re called “bad guys”
What was wrong with the Congressional district map put forward by the Florida legislature?
“Does it burn you up that “those people” can get a gun?”
I didn’t interpret the post that way. It is a legitimate concern to address the possibility of a group of people coming into a country illegally and then arming up.
Being from Texas I’d have thought.... wait a minute, are you really from Texas?
What you post is all the more reasons that CC is necessary.
I believe it was Howie Carr who introduced me to the phrase “he never met a camera he didn’t like.”
Our governor fits that phrase, but he sure knows how to make good use of them. Time will tell.
It had one "majority black" district which was over 200 miles long, to gather together enough urban black people to ensure a black democrat was elected.
DeSantis said, with the Florida AG for support, that violated the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment.
It is a great constitutional argument. It essentially says: "Affirmative action" is not allowed by the US Constitution, it violates equal protection.
He didn’t say “illegal” he said “citizen.”
That I cannot tell you. A bunch of rag tag illegals invading the country don’t negate my 2nd amendment right to own and carry a weapon.
Welcome to your top resource for FL CCW Information. If you are a U.S. Citizen and you own a gun, then the Florida Weapons Permit is the one you want to obtain. This permit is a favorite of military and law enforcement personnel across the country. Exercise your Second Amendment right!
Be Safe!
Be Prepared!
Be Protected!
Who can apply for the Florida CCW Anyone US Citizen 21 or older can apply for the FL Weapons Permit.
** Active Duty U.S. Military can apply at 18 Years of Age
Check your facts before y'all run your mouths.
Blame the tourism industry who has successfully fought open carry efforts for years, arguing that people openly carrying firearms would scare away tourists.
Are you all the same “conservatives” who argue FOR voter identification laws? And now you’re arguing AGAINST CCW laws because you think they are “restrictive”? That’s the same argument the left uses to oppose voter ID. Nice going.
